Reporting directly to the Vice President, Principal Gifts and Strategic Initiatives, the Executive Director, Principal Gifts will serve as a member of the Principal Gifts team and as a strategic thought partner to prioritize principal gift opportunities for institution-wide growth and academic, clinical and health care programs. UTHealth Houston s mission is to educate health science professionals, discover and translate advances in the biomedical and social sciences and model the best practices in clinical care and public health.Position DescriptionThe Executive Director, Principal Gifts will play a leadership role in creating and implement a strategic principal gift pipeline by identifying, engaging, stewarding and cultivating high wealth donors.The ideal candidate will demonstrate a successful track record of securing principal gift commitments at the $5 million level and higher essential to maintain and expand donor relationships to garner philanthropic investment on behalf of UTHealth Houston.Position Key AccountabilitiesManages a portfolio of existing and prospective philanthropic prospects with a capacity to make gifts of $5M+ and achieves annual goals as established by development leadership.Synthesizes institutional opportunities to attract transformational gifts and advance cultivation, engagement, solicitation, and stewardship of principal gift prospects.Assists with development of strategic initiatives across the institution to strengthen the case for support and translate to written documents and presentation materials.Partners with the principal gifts team to create, develop, and implement fundraising strategies to advance the principal gifts portfolio and achieve the principal gifts goals.Networks and connects regularly with volunteer leadership, donors, and prospective donors to build and sustain their positive relationship with the organization. Facilitates key donor visits for university and academic leadership.Prepares written briefing materials and stewardship reports for principal gift prospects.Collaborates with prospect research to develop strategies to build the pipeline for principal gift prospects, working with major gifts team to maximize outreach and growth.Participates in university development meetings as appropriate. Attends events and special functions as required.Responsible for the design, execution, and effectiveness of a system of internal controls which provides reasonable assurance the operations are effective and efficient.Performs other duties as assigned.Certification/SkillsAbility to be conversant in healthcare education and research of the university to a donor population.Deep understanding of individual philanthropy, the philanthropic process, and complex giving structures.Ability to effectively communicate complex information clearly in oral and written formats to a variety of audiences.Experience working with faculty, senior leadership, board members and development professionals.Ability to understand alumni, donors, and prospective donors' needs and show good judgment, diplomacy, and commitment to confidentiality.Demonstrated time and project management skills and ability to work independently with little supervision.Goal-oriented problem solver and strategic thinker with an entrepreneurial mindset.Exhibits required job knowledgeDemonstrates personal effectiveness and accountabilityExhibits teamwork and collaborationExemplifies strong ethics, integrity and respect for othersAdheres to all work environment, health, safety and compliance standardsLeads and develops othersPromotes and values diversitySets vision, strategy and priorities for areas of responsibilityBachelor s degree in related field. Master s degree preferred.Seven years of progressively increasing development experience in a complex academic or healthcare organization.
