Job Details

Summary

Processes new diets and menus or changes to existing diets or menus. Tallies and records nutrition information, and informs dietary staff of patient requirements based on this information. May assist in basic food preparation, caterings, work schedules, provides on-the -job training for new diet leaders and oversees trayline operation during patient meal periods.

Responsibilities

(10%)*Assist Dietitians and Dietetic Technician in tabulation of patient menus and nourishments.

(10%)*Updates patient cardex to reflect current diet orders for pediatric, adult and geriatric patient.

(10%)* Oversees trayline operation during patient meal periods.

(10%)* Make up and adjust department work schedules as instructed.

(10%)*Initiate call-ins for vacancy coverage and update overtime records as instructed.

(10%)* Responsible for service for medical center meetings that have requested food or beverage.

(10%)*Covers Dietitian and Dietetic Technician's absence to a limited extent when qualified as instructed.

(10%)* Fills in payroll summary for approval of Department Head.

(10%)* Provides on-the-job training for new diet leaders as required.

(10%)* Performs other related miscellaneous duties.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Participates in Continuous Quality Improvement as required by the Health System and the job description.

Required Education

Education: HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING AND SKILLS:

Must demonstrate proficiency of use with computer, calculator, telephone, and answering machines.

Prior medical center or institutional coking experience preferred.

Must be able to read, write and verbally communicate with supervisor and co-workers.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

Exposure to stressful situations, including those involving public contact, as well as, trauma, grief and death.

Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitute if required for your position.

Is able to move freely about facility with or without an assisted device and must be able to perform the functions of the job as outlined in the job description.

Overall vision and hearing is necessary with or without assisted device(s).

Frequently required to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time. May require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling or crouching.

Some exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious material. Must follow MyMichigan Health bloodborne pathogen and TB testing as required.

Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, regular and predictable attendance and ability to stay awake.

Overall dexterity is required including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling. May require repetition of these movements on a regular to frequent basis.

Physical Demand Level: Sedentary. Must be able to occasionally (0-33% of the workday) lift or carry 0-10 lbs.
