Head Coach Job Description

DEFINITION

Under the direct supervision of the site administrator responsible for athletics, and/or athletic director, coach individual participants in the skills necessary for excellent achievement in the specific sport. Assist each participating athlete to achieve a high level of skill, an appreciation for the values of discipline and sportsmanship, and an increased level of self-esteem.

Required Qualifications

At least two (2) years of recent (within the last five years) experience or participation as a coach at high school level or above in the specific sport for which you apply.

Knowledge in the care and prevention of athletic injuries, basic sports injuries, basic sports injury first aid, and emergency procedures.

Knowledge of coaching theory and techniques in the sport or game being coached.

Knowledge of the rules and regulations pertaining to the sport or game being coached, the league rules, and at high school level, the regulations of the CIF.

Knowledge of child or adolescent psychology as it relates to sports participation

A valid California driver's license

Responsibilities

Responsible for the coaching area assigned.

Coach the pre-season practice period, the regular season and in all post-season events that may develop.

Review scouting reports and game tactics with associates.

Attend clinics, as available, and maintain proficiency with rules and tactics.

Participate in the Booster Club and community activities as necessary to promote the program.

Inculcate in the players a thorough understanding of District and CIF rules, sportsmanship, policies and regulations, and the District's code of ethics for athletic team coaches.

Monitor and report any problems in facilities and/or conditions of playing and practice fields and training equipment to the athletic director or site administrator in charge of athletics.

Responsible for the supervision of the athletes at all practices, training sessions, games, and any other extracurricular activity which is relevant to the sport. This applies to activities within the District as well as outside of District property.

Perform such other duties as designated by the athletic director, assistant athletic director, or site administrator.

Supervise assistant coaches, assign their respective duties, and conduct staff meetings as necessary.

Communicate and work closely with athletic director and other coaching staff to maintain or improve the total athletic program.

In conjunction with administration and athletic director, responsible for the entire program including varsity, junior varsity, and freshmen.

Submit appropriate forms to athletic director as required by the District, California Interscholastic Federation (CIF), and the Riverside County Office of Education, i.e., eligibility roster, list of players, addresses, accident reports, etc.

Ensure that proper training and safety procedures are followed at all times.

Plan, organize, and implement the teaching of fundamentals, strategies, rules, and techniques.

Maintain properly supplied first aid kit and other emergency supplies.

Maintain current certification in CPR /First Aid and Sudden Cardiac Arrest training.
