We are a U.S.-based, well-diversified, growing, precious metals producer with four wholly-owned operations: the Palmarejo gold-silver complex in Mexico, the Rochester silver-gold mine in Nevada, the Kensington gold mine in Alaska and the Wharf gold mine in South Dakota. In addition, the Company wholly-owns the Silvertip silver-zinc-lead exploration project in British Columbia.

Role Overview:

Joining forces with the Director of Geology Data and Analytics, the Lead GIS Administrator steps into a pivotal role within our Exploration Department. This position is not just about administering the ArcGIS Enterprise platform; it's about shaping the future of our mineral spatial datasets.

As the Lead GIS Administrator, you'll wield your expertise to maintain hardware, software, and processes, ensuring the integrity and security of our valuable data assets. But it doesn't stop there. You'll be at the forefront of innovation, identifying new site requirements and implementing changes both locally and across our corporate offices. A solid grasp of the impacts and security implications of maintaining and operating an ArcGIS Enterprise solution is required.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintains the department's GIS Architecture (versions, patches, and backups) and network functionality across all offices
  • Monitors and improves user service and geodatabase performance at site and corporate offices
  • Develops and designs spatial data strategies
  • Develops web mapping applications and tools
  • Administers the digital library of mineral exploration spatial datasets
  • Performs Quality Assurance/Quality Control for data as a technical reviewer
  • Works with DBAs, ensuring the correct integration of spatial and non-spatial datasets
  • Functions as an internal GIS consultant to all exploration offices company-wide ensuring successful adoption of new GIS technologies
  • Establishes standards and procedures to look after data collection, production of information, data integration, and the use of online services
  • Serves as a technical guide for second level support groups (on-site GIS) and mapping geologists.
  • Mentors data specialists
  • Designs training material and provides training when required
  • Able to travel up to 30%
  • Other related duties as required
Required Qualifications & Skills
  • Experience in a similar role (8 years+)
  • Professional background as a geologist
  • Mandatory Certification in Python programming
  • Requires knowledge of mineral exploration workflows (Field Sampling/Mapping, Core Logging, Drafting, Laboratory analysis, QAQC)
  • Understanding of networking and client-server concepts
  • Proficiency with ArcGIS Enterprise and ArcGIS Portal
  • Proficiency with SQL Server
  • Experience configuring and customizing web applications (ArcGIS Online)
  • Experience with GIS system architecture for enterprise GIS planning and implementation
  • Experience organizing, leading, and maintaining ArcSDE databases
  • Experience writing protocols and procedures for spatial data management
  • Strong problem-solving, trouble-shooting, and analytical skills
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with other employees and contractors using tact, courtesy, and good judgment
  • Experience with or ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience in designing and delivering training would be an asset
  • ESRI Technical Certifications are considered assets
  • Knowledge of software packages and applications such as Micromine, Leapfrog, and SharePoint are considered assets
  • Spanish would be an asset
