At GCI, we solve the hard problems. As a Systems Engineer, a typical day will include the following duties:

This position is for an Experienced Systems Engineer or RF Lab Manager (with significant highly relevant experience) who will oversee Engineering resources across multiple programs and customers. The preferred candidate will have experience estimating the time and resources needed to complete projects. The preferred candidate will also possess the ability to analyze and resolve highly complex technical problems quickly and independently.

Primary roles and responsibilities include:

  • Serve as Program Manager for one or more Chantilly-based GCI programs.

Manage GCI programs that are based at the Chantilly facility; maintain appropriate contact with customers regarding lab work; ensure that the Director of Engineering Solutions is appropriately informed of current work status as well as upcoming work prospects

  • Coordinate use/maintenance of lab space and facilities resources.

Work with GCI facilities support personnel to ensure all lab spaces are appropriately allocated and maintained; provide input to corporate decisions regarding space at the lab; ensure corporate support personnel are informed of space-related issues at the lab.

  • Manage utilization of human resources associated with programs operating out of the lab.

Field requests from other PMs to utilize Engineering personnel in support of other technical efforts; manage the matrix aspect of personnel assigned to work at the lab across multiple Chantilly-based programs; maintain documentation regarding personnel time commitments for the upcoming months; ensure lab personnel are appropriately engaged in work yet not overcommitted; keep Director of Engineering informed regarding resource utilization and potential upcoming needs for additional personnel; work with Director of Engineering to identify hiring needs and screen/interview potential candidates; work with other GCI PMs to develop resource schedules that satisfy deliverable deadlines for various GCI programs

  • Coordinate information security work related to systems at the lab.

Work with GCI Director of Security and other members of the Security team to ensure that information security work progresses according to schedule and supports customer deadlines; ensure information security personnel are working together on an appropriate trajectory to meet infosec deadlines

  • Oversee property management for equipment residing in the lab.

Work with GCI property team to ensure that all equipment residing within lab spaces are appropriate barcoded and recorded in GCI s property management database; ensure that all required inventory activities at the lab are accomplished according to schedule; ensure that the lab is kept tidy with equipment and supplies stored in an orderly fashion

  • Support GCI business development efforts.

Work with GCI personnel supporting proposals or other business development activities to ensure that such activities take into account lab space and personnel constraints; maintain GCI capabilities briefings that accurately represent the current state of capabilities at our Chantilly facility; deliver and participate in briefings regarding our Chantilly-based capabilities

  • Coordinate corporate IT support for activities at the lab.

Work with GCI Director of IT on support for any and all corporate IT resources, to ensure proper O&M including security patching, servicing, and recapitalization in a timely manner. Work with Director of Engineering on yearly budget requests for necessary equipment maintenance and calibration, replacement, and new purchases; justified with linkage to program support and financial impact.
