The Xiaofeng Allen Su laboratory at the Center for Prostate Disease Research (CPDR) is seeking a highly motivated Research Assistant I with interests in cancer research to join a dynamic team science project. This project is under Project for Military Exposure and Toxin History Evaluation in US Service Members (PROMETHEUS), which is a Cancer Moonshot 2.0 project of the Department of Defense's Uniformed Services University of the Health and Sciences (USUHS) Murtha Cancer Center Research Program (MCCRP). This research led by CPDR Principal Investigators focuses on identifying the combination of inheritable markers and environmental exposures influences prostate cancer development. In addition, the project aims to understand the fundamental mechanism of inheritable markers and environmental agents/toxins in impacting prostate cancer progression. The Research Assistant I will be responsible for carrying out research projects in under supervision of postdoctoral fellows or lead scientists. Candidates should have interests in molecular and cell biology. Performs analysis and interpretation of results.

About CPDR:CPDR is an interdisciplinary translational prostate cancer research program of the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS) Department of Surgery and the John P. Murtha Cancer Center Research Program at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. Established in 1992 (Public Law 102-172), CPDR's mission is fulfilled primarily through its three principal programs: (1) the Clinical Translational Research Center; (2) the Basic Science Research Program, and (3) the Multicenter National Prostate Cancer Database to encompass its clinical research work with participating military medical centers.

This position will be in support of the Murtha Cancer Center Research Program (MCCRP) and the Center for Prostate Disease Research (CPDR) located at the Rockledge Offices in Bethesda, Maryland. HJF provides scientific, technical, and programmatic support services to the MCCRP and CPDR.

Responsibilities

* Plans, conducts, and completes investigations under supervision. Follows instructions and standard operating procedures.

* Performs data entry in accurate, timely, and efficient manner. Maintains clear and accurate data collection records and inventories in accordance with Good Clinical and/or Good Laboratory practices.

* Maintains supplies in the laboratory and ensures proper cleanliness and sanitation in accordance with Good Clinical and/or Good Laboratory practices.

* Creates, collects, disseminates, and maintains appropriate study data.

* Maintains records and documentation regarding assigned research. Performs routine data analysis and verifies and corrects data entry.

* May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.

Qualifications

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

* High responsibility to conduct experiments.

* Knowledge of standard laboratory techniques, ability to follow detailed instructions, and analytical skills is required. Background in cancer cell biology/models, cell culture work, molecular biology is desirable.

* Ability to meet deadlines of projects.

* Good communication and analytical skills.

Physical Capabilities

* Lifting: Requires lifting materials up to 25 lbs.

Work Environment

* This position will take place primarily in a laboratory setting.

Education and Experience

* Bachelor's Degree

* Minimum of 0-2 years' experience required.
