GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Responsible for all athletic communications internally and externally. The Sports Information Director will be responsible for all athletic statistical recordings and reporting, will maintain and update the athletic website as well as athletic social media accounts. This individual will also serve as Head Women's Basketball coach and oversee all the aspects of a collegiate women's basketball program including but not limited to: recruiting student-athletes, scheduling, budget management, competition and practice preparation, individual and program development and community engagement. The Sports Information Director and Coach must be available to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends and holidays.

DUTIES:
  • Serve as primary person responsible for maintaining and updating the athletics website.
  • Writes, edits, and distribute quality athletic press releases, feature articles, programs, brochures and website news stories for all athletic events and activities.
  • Oversee and manage the editing and design of media guides and game programs for all home athletic events.
  • Maintain athletic historical records, statistics and report all contest outcomes and scores to the conference and NJCAA as required.
  • Coordinates and supervises game day workers to provide statistics, live streaming and sports information.
  • Provide media support for special events and serve as primary media contact for all varsity sports.
  • Responsible for nominating NCMC student-athletes for conference, region and national awards by deadlines.
  • Assists Athletic Director with game day administration, compliance, fundraising, scheduling, long term planning, and other needs for the department.
  • Prepare women's basketball student-athletes and team for competition through use of practices, team film sessions and scouting reports.
  • Identify, evaluate and recruit prospective student-athletes to North Central Michigan College. Including issuing scholarship offers within the boundaries of NCMC, the MCCAA and the NJCAA.
  • Knowledge of NJCAA regulations and guidelines governing recruitment and retention of student-athletes.
  • Develop strength and conditioning program for student athletes.
  • Monitor student-athlete academic progress and achievement through a variety of student study supports.
  • Provide leadership and mentoring to assistant coach(es).
  • Oversees the selection, purchase, fitting and maintenance of team equipment, to include uniforms, athletic equipment and supplies.
  • Appropriately manage team budget and reconcile expenses.
  • Create competition schedule and complete all necessary registration and paperwork through cooperation with the Athletic Director.
  • Coordinate team travel to and from competitions.
  • Ensuring team compliance with all league, conference and institutional rules and regulations.
  • Promotes among coaches, the athletic staff, and student athletes' traits of sportsmanship, personal integrity, and physical and emotional well-being.
  • Builds and fosters a supportive and competitive team culture representing the mission, values and goals of the North Central athletic department.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.


Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's Degree required, master's degree preferred.
  • Two (2) years (three years preferred) of demonstrated progressive experience working in a collegiate athletic department or equivalent experience.
  • Proven fundraising experience preferred.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to communicate and develop rapport with departmental staff, students, faculty, alumni, administration and the general public.
  • Strong organizational and management skills with the ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Ability to create, compose and edit written materials.
  • Proficient with Microsoft applications such as Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint.
  • A valid driver's license.
  • Ability to lift and move equipment to support events up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time and perform physical tasks associated with coaching the sport of women's basketball.
  • Enthusiastic, people orientated a winning attitude and a passion for results.
