Specimen Processor I

As required by our governmental client, this position requires being a US Citizen, lawful resident alien, citizen of American Samoa or other territory owning permanent allegiance to the United States.

Receive, inspect, and document incoming shipments of DNA specimens, ensuring general integrity and adequacy. Sort, weigh, and prepare reference specimens for processing, maintaining accurate records in the Specimen Management System (SMS) and comparing with the Defense Eligibility Enrollment System (DEERS). Process a minimum of 400 specimens daily, conducting inventories as needed. Ensure proper vacuuming and heat-sealing of repository pouches, adhering to a schedule to prevent backlogs. Generate reports, maintaining Privacy Act considerations throughout specimen handling.

Specimen Processor I Responsibilities Include:
  • Receive and inspect incoming shipments of DNA specimens, ensuring general integrity and adequacy.
  • Sort, weigh, and prepare reference specimens for processing, adhering to established protocols.
  • Maintain accurate records in the Specimen Management System (SMS) and compare information with the Defense Eligibility Enrollment System (DEERS).
  • Process a minimum of 400 specimens daily, meeting established productivity standards.
  • Conduct inventories as needed to track and manage specimen stock levels.
  • Ensure proper vacuuming and heat-sealing of repository pouches before placing them in designated storage boxes.
  • Adhere to a schedule for heat-sealing, leaving no room for a backlog of specimens.
  • Generate documents and reports related to specimen handling and processing.
  • Maintain strict adherence to Privacy Act considerations during all aspects of specimen handling and information management.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.


Specimen Processor I Experience, Education, Skills, Abilities requested:
  • High school diploma or equivalent. Post-secondary education in a relevant field may be advantageous.
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure accuracy in specimen handling, sorting, and documentation.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks, especially when processing a minimum of 400 specimens daily.
  • Basic technical skills for using specimen management systems and related software.
  • Basic recordkeeping skills to maintain accurate documentation of specimens in the Specimen Management System.
  • Awareness of and adherence to privacy and regulatory considerations, including the Privacy Act.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods, lift moderately heavy objects, and perform repetitive tasks.
  • Capability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Good communication skills to relay information accurately and efficiently.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and a fast-paced work environment.
  • Demonstrated detail-oriented approach to specimen processing and documentation.
  • Proficiency in basic mathematical calculations for weighing and measuring specimens.
  • Adequate manual dexterity for sorting and handling specimens with precision.
  • Basic critical thinking skills to troubleshoot minor issues in specimen processing.
  • Must pass pre-employment qualifications of Cherokee Federal.
