Director, Public Affairs and Issues Analysis

Position Summary:The director of public affairs and issues analysis leads the development of state and federal policy priorities and positions, provides strategic advice and guidance on issues of importance to Ohio soybean farmers and stakeholders, and drives farmer and partner engagement on key policy issues.Responsibilities:Manage OSA legislative and policy programManage policy advocacy activities to influence state and federal policy decisionsLead development of OSA policy priorities; monitor state and federal legislative and regulatory issues that impact Ohio soybean farmers and initiate research and analysis on those issuesDevelop strategy to understand and prioritize issues of importance to Ohio farmersProvide ongoing communication and interaction with board members regarding issues analysis and researchEnergize Ohio soybean farmers to amplify OSA policy priorities with key decision-makersManage ongoing activities and lead growth of Ohio Soybean PACIdentify opportunities to engage farmers and partners in research and education on key state and federal policy issuesWork as part of team to develop and deliver communications to publicize OSA policy priorities and achievementsDevelop member benefit packages and support OSA membership retention and growthIdentify prospects and assist with increasing participation in OSA corporate partnership and advertising programsPreferred Qualifications and Competencies:8+ years of experience in government affairs and public policyStrong understanding of state, federal, and local government, including structure, key decision-makers and processFamiliarity with agricultural policy issues at state and federal levelsStrong relationship-building skills and ability to adapt to a rapidly changing workplaceExperience working in a member-based organizationAbility to work independently or cooperatively as part of a teamAbility to analyze issues, develop a path toward problem-solving, and manage the process to completionExperience leading board members and other staff toward successful outcomesAbility to communicate decisions with tact and professionalismExperience managing multiple projects with multiple deadlines simultaneouslyAbility to think strategically while also focusing on the details of implementationAbility to travel as needed to implement OSA and OSC initiatives
