, a nationally recognized leading nonprofit life plan community (continuing care retirement community) located in Asheville, is hiring a full-time ***Fitness** **Specialist*** to join our Life Enrichment Team.

The Fitness Specialist plays a vital role in our community and will have a unique opportunity to channel their knowledge, skills, ambition, and experience in a meaningful way that directly impacts the lives and wellbeing of our residents. Reporting to the Independent Living Life Enrichment Director, this position will lead fitness and overall wellness programs based on current research and national trends for older adults in our state-of-the-art wellness facility, the .

**What youll do:**

* Provide leadership and direction in the operation of the Jordan Center

* Develop and implement age-appropriate wellness programs, exercises, fitness guidelines, and methodology for proper exercise prescriptions and wellness consultations following the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) standards and guidelines

* Work collaboratively with other departments to create and integrate Givens wellness philosophy

* Collaborate with the Therapy Team in the provision of outpatient therapies to residents

* Appropriately assess a residents health status before prescribing an exercise program

* Conduct and supervise resident wellness assessments, strength training orientations, and resistance orientations

* Develop and implement a monthly calendar of wellness programs appropriately balanced within the Givens dimensions of wellness, diversified to reflect various educational, cultural, and ability levels of residents campus-wide

* Maintain all areas in a safe, secure, clean, and orderly manner

* Monitor resident, team member, and guest safety while utilizing the Jordan Center

* Check, maintain, and balance pool chemicals

* Wash, fold and distribute all Jordan Center towels and sheets

* Demonstrate understanding and application of ACSM standards and guidelines

* Identify the safety and efficacy of exercise to a specific population, i.e., orthopedic impaired, diabetic, etc.

* Retain knowledge and be able to apply emergency procedures, rules, and the policy and procedures of the Jordan Center

* Conduct group exercise classes

* Educate and instruct members in the proper use of the strength training equipment, cardiovascular equipment, free weights, and flexibility exercises to promote individual reliability and individual self-efficacy

* Monitor and/or direct the Fitness/Wellness Assistant (or Interns) in the day-to-day operations of the Jordan Center, as necessary

**What youll need:**

* Bachelors Degree in Exercise Science, Health Promotion, Kinesiology or related discipline required; **OR** the equivalent combination of industry certifications and 2+ years experience

* CPR, First Aid, and Lifeguard Certification (Red Cross or YMCA) certification required

* Knowledge in exercise and fitness programs and programming

The following certifications are preferred, but not required: Arthritis Aquatics Certification,-Cooper Research Institute, Fitness and Strength Training for the 50+ population, NSCA Certified Personal Trainer, Mature Stuff, Council on Aging and Adult Development, AEA Aquatics Instructor, ACSM Certified Exercise Physiologist, ASFA Fitness Instructor/Personal Trainer, or ACE/AFAA Aerobics Instructor or equivalent.

**Compensation:** Starting pay is $20 per hour and includes our comprehensive benefits package!
