Position Overview
Headed by the Corporation's Chief Counsel, the Legal Department serves as the in-house legal department for MetroPlusHealth, a subsidiary of the New York City Health & Hospitals Corporation. The Legal Department provides legal advice and services to support the operations of a public health insurance plan with a mission to offer New Yorkers equal access to quality healthcare. MetroPlusHealth operates eleven lines of business with a focus on government plans such as Medicaid Managed Care, Medicare, and the Essential Plan.
Join us this summer (June - August) for a highly interactive and engaging internship experience where you get to work alongside various departments to develop your skills and learn more about the health insurance and healthcare industry.
Department Requesting: Graduate Student
Interns will also participate in workshops, activities and other events organized by MetroPlusHealth
*Note: This is a paid internship program. Prospective interns must be current students attending an accredited College or University and must be 18 years or older to be considered.
Job Description
- Research legal issues related to the administration and operation of health insurance plans
- Asist in reviewing agreements with medical providers
- Assist in reviewing agreements with vendors providing services to health insurance plans
- Assist disputes over coverage, including fair hearings
Minimum Qualifications
- Candidates must be currently enrolled in a graduate degree program at an accredited law school.
