Position Description
Summary This position is located in the Fitness Department of the Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) Department, Naval Air Station Meridian, MS. The function of this position is to provide maximum opportunities for participation in a well-rounded program of planned recreational sports and physical fitness activities designed to enhance the physical, mental, and social well-being of all authorized patrons. Responsibilities DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Responsible for assisting in the planning and implementation, day-to-day supervision, and conducting of, an ongoing program to provide conditioning, strength training, fitness events and overall physical fitness program. Responsible for the day to day oversight of programs and provides technical guidance to participants as required. Responsible for day-to-day proper preparation of fitness spaces for ongoing programs and events. Provides customer service to facility users on proper exercise and weightlifting techniques, proper sports-related techniques and safety guidelines, as well as usage of various equipment in the facility. Provides personal training and group fitness instruction to patrons. Acts in the capacity of a Lead for the Fitness Center as assigned, monitoring the facility for adherence to Navy regulations, industry standards and local operating procedures. ADDITIONAL DUTIES Performs additional duties as assigned. May be delegated responsibilities to assist additonal portions of MWR Fitness, to include, but not limited to, sports, fitness, aquatics and other recreational programming and facilities. Qualifying experience must have been equivalent to the next lower level in the normal line of progression. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Thorough understanding of physical fitness programming and experience enabling the individual to independently carry out the day-to-day operations is required. At least one of the following certifications is required: Personal Training or Group Fitness Instructor. The certifications must be maintained throughout the duration of employment in this position. This position requires a certification: Either NCCA Accredited Group Exercise or NCCA Accredited Personal Training Certification is required for hire. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
