ROLL TENDER / PRESS ASSISTANT


Job Details

We are currently seeking a Roll Tender / Press Assistant to join our team. This position plays a crucial role in our production process by assisting with the operation of roll presses and ensuring the efficient running of equipment.

Responsibilities:
- Assists with preparing press for daily newspaper printing.
- Opens rolls of newsprint and examining for any defects.
- Preparing rolls for splicing on Megtec reels.
- Following SOP for splice preparation.
- Assists operator during set up and production, hanging plates, checking pagination and overall quality of job.
- Cleans and maintain on reels and FWL systems by following maintenance procedures.
- Calculate number of rolls required for job to ensure press will not run out of paper.
- Practices prescribed safety standards in the pressroom operation.
- Manual duties include: standing for extended periods, stooping, climbing, bending, stretching, going up and down stairs and must be able to lift and carry up to 60 pounds.
- The ability to work with small parts is required.

Working hours: 7:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Skills:
- One year of related experience in a pressroom is preferred.

Education:
High School

Experience:
1-4 years

Qualifications:
- Must be able to train on days for 6-8 weeks and switch over to nights once the training path has been completed.
- Must possess basic mechanical skills and have thorough knowledge of printing press procedures.
- Must have the ability to reason and follow instructions as well as the ability to compensate and make adjustments when chemical levels change.
- Ability to work day, evening, and weekend hours.
- Majority of working time requires standing and walking.
- Requires full range of physical activity.
- The ability to wear steel-toed shoes and use safety gear is required as there is regular exposure to ink
spray, chemicals, and heavy machinery.
