  • Ability to provide idiomatic translations of non-technical material using correct syntax and expression from the foreign language to English, and vice-versa
  • Ability to conduct consecutive, accurate interpretations of ongoing conversations and/or activities
  • Willing and able to live and work in harsh environments, to include living and working in temporary facilities as mission dictates
  • Ability to serve in a combat zone is desirable

Minimum Qualifications / Experience:
  • Must possess an active Secret (CAT II) or TS/SCI (CAT III) clearance
  • Two or more years of experience
  • High school degree/GED; in lieu of education, experience may be substituted
  • Must have a minimum of general professional proficiency (3) in English and the target language(s) for listening, speaking, reading and writing

Other Qualifications:
  • A small number of linguists who qualify may optionally take training in special skills
    • These may include parachuting, rappelling, fast roping, and other insertion/extraction techniques
