- Ability to provide idiomatic translations of non-technical material using correct syntax and expression from the foreign language to English, and vice-versa
- Ability to conduct consecutive, accurate interpretations of ongoing conversations and/or activities
- Willing and able to live and work in harsh environments, to include living and working in temporary facilities as mission dictates
- Ability to serve in a combat zone is desirable
Minimum Qualifications / Experience:- Must possess an active Secret (CAT II) or TS/SCI (CAT III) clearance
- Two or more years of experience
- High school degree/GED; in lieu of education, experience may be substituted
- Must have a minimum of general professional proficiency (3) in English and the target language(s) for listening, speaking, reading and writing
Other Qualifications: - A small number of linguists who qualify may optionally take training in special skills
- These may include parachuting, rappelling, fast roping, and other insertion/extraction techniques
