Associate, Strategic Communications (Financial Services Policy)

FGS Global (FGS), a leading communications and government affairs consulting firm, is seeking an insightful and sharp communications professional to join the firm s Strategic Communications practice. This position is within the practice s Financial Services group and based in our Washington, D.C. office.


This Associate position is a unique opportunity for someone interested in communications, public relations, press engagement and crisis management to develop research, writing and media skills at a prestigious firm with high-profile clients.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Monitor and/or compile daily press clips for a diverse roster of financial services industry client accounts and/or sub-projects with focus on financial services policy
  • Assist client teams in prep for meetings/pitches
  • Basic writing and research tasks (including emails, meeting agendas, messaging documents, press materials, client documents, owned media content, etc.)
  • Build and maintain press lists
  • Prepare briefing documents, talking points, etc.
  • Develop pitches and engage in media outreach across print, online and broadcast media
  • Provide administrative support to 1-2 Partners as well as client teams, including managing calendars and scheduling, preparing and submitting expense reports, booking travel, and filtering internal and external requests
  • Contribute to firm s new business process and efforts


ATTRIBUTES

  • A BA/BS degree in a related field and 1-2 years of relevant internship experience
  • Specific familiarity, experience and/or interest in financial services policy issues
  • Previous experience in communications field, particularly media
  • Extremely strong writing and communications skills; ability to produce clear, concise press materials within tight deadlines
  • Superior research and editing skills
  • Ability to identify and cultivate key media contacts and outlets for a range of clients
  • Experience pitching stories to local and national news outlets
  • Experience with rapid response or 'war room' efforts
  • Strong strategic thinking and long-term planning skills
  • Ability to project manage and multi-task in a dynamic and fast-paced environment
  • Solid knowledge of MS Office Suite
  • Familiarity with social media platforms
  • Ability to adapt to new conditions, assignments and deadlines and apply appropriate judgment
