Scope of the Position

The Process Engineering Technician supports the continuous improvement of existing manufacturing assets through the use of sound engineering principles and analytical data to drive results on the shop floor. The Process Engineering Technician will work extensively with machine operators, process specialists, and other engineers to define and implement improvement activities aimed at achieving end-of-curve production output. The Process Engineering Technician is expected to become a subject matter expert with the ability to train those above and below the position. The Process Engineering Technician will optimize assembly manufacturing, welding and line processes. This position will support the Production, Quality, Maintenance and EH&S departments.

Responsibilities

  • Optimizes all machine processes by reducing scrap, cycle times and mold change times;
  • Assists with launches of new programs by building a new process to ensure quality products of parts and attends launch meetings prior to production start-up;
  • Verifies systems performance by testing functioning of installed equipment;
  • Ensures operation of equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements, troubleshooting malfunctions, calling for repairs, and evaluating new equipment and techniques;
  • Support process improvement projects through design, procurement, installation and debug/start-up of equipment modifications.
  • Develop training materials and train operators and technicians, document and monitor new operational processes.
  • Implement process improvement projects safely in order to ensure safety, quality, and productivity objectives are met.
  • Serve as the technical resource who effectively supports the increase of operational productivity through manufacturing process optimization.
  • Be recognized as the technical expert by demonstrating exemplary knowledge, skills, and ability when implementing engineering principles.
  • Completes all paperwork as required.

Qualifications

  • Candidates will possess a certificate in Engineering - Mechanical, Electrical or a similar manufacturing discipline.
  • 2-3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment is required.
  • CAD experience drawing in 3D.
  • Additional knowledge in any of the following would also be an asset: TS16949; ISO14001; PLC and HMI programming; vision systems; servo systems; robotics; paint systems; welding; machining; ergonomics; line balancing and MOST techniques; GD&T; PHSR/machine guarding; Six Sigma
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Strong communication skills (both verbal and written).
  • Proficiency with database applications and administration systems, specifically Microsoft Office
  • Ability to work effectively alone and prioritize.
