Description Are you a social media specialist interested in communicating science and engineering concepts to large audiences online? Are you the type of person that loves to come up with new, visually interesting and entertaining means of communicating STEM messages and employment opportunities? If so, this could be the job for you APL s communications department is seeking an experienced social media specialist to join our team. Together with other creatives, the social media specialist will provide high-quality multimedia for social platforms, showcasing some of the Laboratory s best work. As a social media specialist you will Cultivate a compelling digital media presence across all platforms, with content ranging from short-form posts to long-form descriptions, Shorts, tweets, video, animation and more Create digital media content (gifs, animations, shorts, etc.) that support the strategic messaging of the Lab on social media platforms Develop and pitch integrated communications plans for social media-based campaigns Present APL s brand with one voice in a variety of formats and help drive engagement Work in collaboration with the digital media program manager and social media team to develop new policies and procedures to carry out and meet the organization s strategic communications goals Work in collaboration with the external communications program to ensure consistency across all external APL products Assist with strategic communications planning and support for various initiatives Support the social media plan and oversee its execution Provide consultation and communications assistance to sectors and departments as assigned to further best practices and integrate communications across the organization Manage special projects as assigned Find new and innovative avenues to communicate our message Qualifications You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you A Bachelor's degree in digital media, social media, communications, or related field, or equivalent years of experience 3 years of relevant experience with digital media, journalism, social media, strategic communication or communications Excellent organizational skills with a high attention to detail Strong creative, non-technical writing skills Demonstrated ability to work and interact collaboratively with staff at all levels of an organization Project management skills The ability to develop communications plans to synchronize with organizational goals Proficiency in working with social media platforms, schedulers, and data analytics A portfolio of work that demonstrates your skills managing high level social media accounts for high level organizations A deep understanding of digital communications channels, including electronic and print media A proven record in building digital medial platforms, notably social media communications Are able to obtain Secret level security clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship. You'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you 5 years of professional experience with digital media, journalism, social media, strategic communication or communications Experience in government or academia social media management Experience in graphic design and video production Experience with data analytics and metrics reporting An interest in learning and applying new software as required The ability to represent external brands effectively to external audiences including stakeholders, executives, business and government organizations, academia and external audiences The ability to meet deadlines under extreme pressure and with high visibility projects Hold an active Secret clearance Why work at APL?
