Job Title: Technical Writer/Editor II

Job Summary:

Collaborate with esteemed scientists and communication specialists to produce impactful publications, articles, and web content, playing a pivotal role in shaping the dialogue around groundbreaking scientific advancements for a better-informed society.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Drafting content that articulates, interprets, and explains important, complex, and potentially controversial NSF science programs and research findings
  • Developing public affairs audience- or issues-driven communication strategies, digital engagement strategies, and delivery methods
  • Planning, drafting, and developing communications products, plans, and engagement strategies to address a variety of complex scientific research topics
  • Writing/editing articles, white papers, web content, and other publications related to science topics of interest to a variety of stakeholders, translating concepts using plain language principles
  • Conducting research through interviews with subject-matter specialists and other research methods to write and edit content for a variety of communications channels, including print, web, and digital
  • Collaborating with scientists and OLPA personnel in the preparation and review of social media and web content and provide technical writing guidance and feedback

Required Qualifications and Skills:
  • Bachelor's Degree in English, Communications, or other similar degree
  • 3+ years of experience in technical writing or scientific writing distilling complex, technical subjects into Plain Language for a diverse range of audiences
  • Experience with Associated Press style, conforming with Plain Language standards
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, etc.)

Desired:
  • Master's degree in English, Professional/Technical Writing, or related field
  • Experience in a scientific field

Work Setting and Environment:
  • Monday - Friday, normal working hours
  • Work is hybrid; 2 days onsite per week
  • Onsite location is NSF HQ in Alexandria, VA
