Job Title: Environmental Health and Safety Specialist

Job Purpose: The Environmental Health and Safety Specialist is responsible for developing and implementing all environmental, health, and safety programs in a fast-paced, multi-plant global operation. The EHS Specialist provides hands-on management to the site level plant management teams specific to Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) requirements. Develops and/or maintains audits, policies, programs, and initiatives to ensure compliance year-over-year in Health and Safety regulations. Trains and mentors plant staff to drive results, influence decisions and hold team members accountable for keeping the workplace safe.

Location: On-site at corporate headquarters in Monticello, IN

Classification: Full-time, Exempt Specialist

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Responsible for planning, documenting, training, establishing, implementing, and maintaining a variety of EHS safety programs and objectives to assure the safety of Jordan Manufacturing s team members and compliance with regulatory requirements.

Monitors Federal, State and Local Environmental and Safety Regulations and provides technical support to the site level to ensure compliance and the safety of all team members.

Responsible for training on identified topics have been completed within regulatory and internal standards.

Provide leadership in the areas of health, safety and security driving improved results year-over-year for OSHA recordable incident rate, worker compensation costs and overall security risk reduction recommendations.

Develop compliance program to meet all applicable Local, State and Federal regulations.

Ensure that required inspections and recordkeeping associated with regulatory and internal requirements are completed in a timely manner.

Drives continuous improvement using tools and activities, including self-assessments and audit processes; incident/near miss investigations; metrics and targets (leading and lagging indicators); and periodic reviews of performance, culture, and talent.

Recommend the use and implementation of IT software technologies to facilitate effective EHS programs.

Provide Environmental management in air, water, solid waste, and ground water for continuous improvements to the environmental footprint. Conduct oversight to the operations to prevent any notice of violations, maintaining 100% permit compliance.

Provide EH&S guidance and support (function as a working manager) to ensure process, procedures and activities are completed timely, ensuring EH&S visibility in the plants at every level.

Provide critical input and technical advice and assistance to the operating areas with respect to compliance activities, and equipment selection and operations.

Work closely with regulatory agencies promoting a relationship based on trust, openness, and transparency.

Work with the local community to maintain a positive relationship with our neighbors, local fire dept, and local business.

Works with plant management to develop EHS operating and capital budgets.

Participates in recruitment, hiring, and training of EHS staff.

Sets key performance indicators for the plants that align with organizational goals and reviews progress toward these goals with the plant management staff on a daily/weekly/monthly basis.

Ensures standardized training and measurement systems are built into the safety methods of production teams.

Ensure training is carried through to the overall production and administrative workforce.

Maintain metrics and analyze data to assess performance and implement improvements throughout the safety process.

Responsible for ensuring policies and procedures conform to GRS / CCS standards related to EHS.

Performs other duties as required.

Required Qualifications

BS or Associates in scientific area preferably in the Environmental, Health, and Safety technical field, Engineering, or similar relevant field.

Minimum 5 years of EHS specialty experience in a manufacturing environment.

Demonstrated ability to influence the workforce culture to drive safe working behaviors throughout the network.

Experience making crucial decisions in high pressure situations.

Excellent analytical, problem solving and organizational skills.

Ability to work cross functionally and manage multiple projects that deliver on time.

Ability to obtain year-over-year improved results through performance management.

Strong interpersonal skills including oral and written communications, negotiating, and influencing decisions both internal and external.

The ability to communicate complex issues, simplifying updates for upper management, regulatory agencies, and communities.

Organized, proactive, and motivating cross functional influencer.

Preferred Qualifications

Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) preferred.

Lean and/or Six Sigma

Working Conditions

Position is located in an office setting and factory setting.

Prolonged sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

Prolonged periods of sitting, walking, stooping, bending, and climbing

Must have the ability to lift up to 40 pounds at once.
