Summary:
The Department of Interpretation and Translation in the School of Language, Education, and Culture invites applications for an open rank non-tenure track, pre-tenure track or tenure track faculty position in the Bachelor of Interpretation (BAI), Master of Interpretation (MAI), and Doctor of Philosophy in Translation and Interpreting Studies (PhD) programs. In these programs, students take courses that advance their professional skills and theoretical knowledge of signed language Translation and Interpreting Studies, focusing on American Sign Language (ASL)-English interpreting. Applicants will be committed to: teaching undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral courses; conducting research in their area(s) of expertise; and engaging in service to the program, University, and profession.

Job Description:
- Teach ASL-English interpretation and translation theory, professional practice, research, and other courses at the undergraduate and/or graduate level.
- Mentor, guide, and advise students
- Engage in scholarship and curriculum development in interpreting and/or translation.
- Engage in professional development opportunities focused on current pedagogy and evidence-based practices in teaching interpretation and translation.
- Participate in program, department, school, and university faculty activities and professional service.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the School Director.
Minimum Qualifications:- For a tenure track, an earned doctoral degree in a language-related discipline (Interpreting, Translation, Linguistics) or a terminal degree in a related specialization (e.g., Anthropology, Sociology, Education, Psychology)
- For a non-tenure track, earned Master's degree in a language related discipline (Interpreting, Translation, Linguistics, Signed Language Pedagogy) or in a related specialization (e.g., Deaf Studies, Anthropology, Sociology, Education, Psychology)
- Minimum of three years of full-time teaching experience in American Sign Language-English interpreting and/or translation (e.g., theory, skills, professional practice, history of profession, research)
- Ability to apply evidence-based and current pedagogical practices in interpreter and/or translator education.
- Excellent American Sign Language (ASL) skills, including the ability to lecture and conduct daily department business in ASL at the time of application
- For tenure track, scholarly activity and service in the field of signed language interpretation and translation, such as publications, presentations and/or service to regional, state or national interpreting organizations
- Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills through collaborations with community partners, colleagues, and/or academic institutions
- Demonstrated experience incorporating equity, diversity, inclusion, and access, multicultural frameworks, and/or social justice work in teaching and/or research
Preferred Qualifications:- Earned doctoral degree in a language-related discipline (Interpreting, Translation, Linguistics) or a terminal degree in a related specialization (e.g., Anthropology, Sociology, Education, Psychology). Applicants currently doing doctoral program coursework or currently engaged in dissertation research may be considered for a pre-tenure track faculty appointment.
- Degree in Interpreting, Translation, Linguistics, Deaf Studies, or Sign Language Education
- For tenure track, scholarly activity and service in the field of signed language interpretation and translation, such as publications, presentations, and/or service to regional, state, or national interpreting organizations
- Minimum three years of experience as an interpreter/translator practitioner
- Current NAD V, RID, CASLI (AVLIC) certification, or documented equivalent for international applicants
- Experience serving on dissertation and/or thesis committees
- Interest in developing and implementing a curriculum focused on deaf interpreters
