VP of Finance


Job Details

Established Anne Arundel County construction company with projects in the Maryland, DC and Virginia areas is currently seeking a VP of Finance. Directly reporting to the CFO, the VP Finance will be responsible for monitoring the financial health, stability, and growth of the organization. This role requires a hands-on professional with excellent leadership skills, financial acumen, a deep understanding of the construction industry and the desire and capability to grow into the CFO role.


Responsibilities:

Direct the accounting, tax, and financial reporting functions of the company.

Manage the month-end close process, including Work in Progress schedules, reconciliations, journal entries, and financial statement preparation.

Lead the annual budgeting process, prepare financial forecasts, variance analyses, and financial reports for executive management and stakeholders.

Develop, implement, and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets, ensure financial integrity and compliance with regulatory requirements.

Ensure compliance with accounting standards, regulatory requirements, and tax obligations.

Collaborate with project executives and managers to monitor project financial performance, analyze variances, and recommend corrective action as needed.

Build and lead a high-performing finance team, providing guidance, coaching, and professional development opportunities.

Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement within the finance department.

Support the Treasury and Cash Management functions.


Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; MBA or advanced degree preferred.

CPA, CCIFP, or other relevant professional certifications is highly desirable.

5 to 10 years of proven experience as a controller or VP Finance in the construction industry.

In-depth knowledge of construction accounting principles, project costing, and contract management.

Expertise with construction-specific ERP systems, financial software, and MS Office applications.

Strong financial analysis, modeling, and forecasting skills.

Excellent communication and presentation skills.

Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships and collaborate effectively across departments.

Strategic thinker with the ability to translate financial data into actionable insights.

Demonstrated leadership ability with a track record of driving results and managing change effectively.
