The American Red Cross (ARC) International Services Department (ISD) seeks to prevent and alleviate human suffering around the world by responding to disasters, building safer, more resilient communities, and educating future humanitarians. The American Red Cross stands ready to assist those affected by disaster and crisis across the world through our Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement partners.

The International Response & Recovery team of the ISD serves as American Red Cross focal point for tracking and acting when a disaster that occurs outside of the United States rises to the level where there is a request for international assistance. As part of the Response & Recovery unit, the Response Operations team supports these response efforts with the management of essential data points and processes, development and documentation of procedures, and coordination of internal stakeholder groups.

The Response Operations team is seeking a 6-month Temporary Full Time (TFT) position to boost capacity given the unprecedented rise in international response activities and the launch of new systems and tools.

Responsibilities

  • Systems Management and Rollout 60%
    • Support the maintenance and clean-up of the Response team files and data across SharePoint and Salesforce platforms;
    • Identify processes and procedures that require adaptation or system revision in relation to the rollout of the new Salesforce based Project Management system;
    • Support users in accomplishing their process tasks and other functions in the new Salesforce based system;
    • Develop comprehensive documentation of system procedures for the Response & Recovery team;
    • Identifying and creating appropriate training guides or tools as needed;
    • Supports the monitors of operation statuses on systems and dashboards, ensuring they reflect accurate information and are in compliance on matters such as reports, payments, approvals, and closeouts;

  • Doctrine Development 20%
    • Supports the Response Operations Lead in the development of doctrine, topic guides, and tools for the ISD Response & Recovery Concept of Operations (ConOps);
    • Coordinates with subject matters experts to capture their work norms and processes in ConOps materials;
    • When needed, track the progress of targeted ConOps reforms against the planned reform sprint cycle;
  • Response Coordination 10%
    • When requested by the Response Operations Manager, attend Quarterly Review Meetings and Pre-Funding Dialogues with partners;
    • When requested by the Response Operations Manager, provide guidance to Response Leads and other internal stakeholders or the appropriate tools or procedures that can be used to resolve issues
    • Other Duties as Necessary 10%

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor s degree required, MA in international relations, public health, social sciences, management, or related field preferred.
    • Minimum 5 years of relevant professional experience, with experience working on systems and tools to improve team performance and adherence to procedures.
    • Prior experience working or living abroad, especially in a developing country preferred.
    • Excellent writing, editing and time-management skills, with a high proficiency in Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. SharePoint and Salesforce proficiency a strong plus.
    • Must display flexibility, adaptability, initiative, and a high degree of competence in project support, research and teamwork.
    • Strong interpersonal skills and experience with teamwork and coordination.
    • Excellent writing skills, strong attention to detail, and ability to identify gaps and take the initiative to address them.
    • Demonstrated interest in international development and humanitarian assistance.
    • Fluent spoken and written English required.
    • Combination of candidate s education and general experience satisfies requirements so long as the total years equate to description s minimum education and general experience years combined (Management experience cannot be substituted).

    Thesalary range for this position is:$70,000 - $80,000

    Physical Requirements: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to handle or feel; and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 15 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. The work environment will consist of moderate noise (i.e. business office with computers, phones and printers, light traffic). The employee must have the ability to work in a small cubicle and have the ability to sit at a computer terminal for an extended period of time.
