SUMMARY:

This is a Food Safety Specialist position for a controlled environment agriculture operation. Under the direct supervision of the Food Safety and Quality Manager, the FSS's objective is to manage the execution of the site's food safety and compliance program while continually improving key performance metrics. This is a hands-on leadership position.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (Non-Essential Functions are preceded by an *)

  • Manage master sanitation schedule, chemical supplies and inventory, and sanitation key performance indicators.
  • Train sanitation and production team members on SOPs and Food Safety SOPs
  • Conduct testing for environmental monitoring program, manage corrective actions, and generate weekly reports.
  • Review food safety and sanitation logs and generate weekly compliance reports
  • Perform internal audits, mock recalls, glass and brittle plastics inspections, and workplace safety inspections and manage corrective actions
  • Lead monthly Food Safety and Human Safety meetings with the site management team.
  • Exhibit and lead the facilities GAPs and GMPs


Requirements

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Associate degree in food science, microbiology, or related field of study, or on-the-job food safety experience
  • 2+ Yrs. of food safety experience
  • General knowledge of OSHA safety rules and regulations
  • Effective communication (both written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.


PREFERRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
  • HACCP, PCQI, or Produce Safety Rule certification.
  • OSHA 30 certification.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish


REQUIRED PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

Manual Dexterity: Ability to quickly move your hands and arms sufficiently to grasp, hold, finely manipulate objects.

Muscle Strength & Flexibility: Ability to bend, reach, stoop, squat, pivot, turn, balance, walk, push, pull, and lift and carry up to 50lbs.

Sustained Fast Pace: Ability to work at a very fast sustained pace without reduction in quality, food safety and workplace safety compliance.
