**Description**
JOB SPECIFICATION: According to the Dictionary of Occupational Titles, 4th edition, 1991, the physical demand level of a fork-lift operator is medium. Reasonable accommodations for the physical demand of the fork-lift operator can be created. The essential job function of the fork-lift operator is lifting materials 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and 10 pounds of force constantly. The fork-lift operator will have to push, pull, lift and carry on an average of 30 pounds. The operator will use full range of motion while performing the essential job functions.
**JOB DUTIES & EXPECTATIONS**
lift a tethered employee in a tray to pick materials for the customer and place the tray on the order filling table, or lift a loaded tray of steel and place the tray into the rack
move levers and press pedals to drive the fork-lift and to raise the lifting platform
position the forks under the tray and platform and will raise the forks
responsible for the safety and training of the individual on the lifting platform
correctly correspond the customers order and tray location and is responsible to go to the correct rack location as indicated on the packing list and communicate to the picker the correct location, description, size and number of pieces
verify the tray before placing the tray on the order filling table or back into the rack
read and understand Norfolk Iron & Metals packing list and locator book system
verify the dimensions by using tape measures, gauges and micrometers
open bundles of steel by using band cutters or bolt cutters and separate the bundle by a spring, their hand, or other separating device
required to accurately fill their trays
clean the work site area by using a broom, and assist in other housekeeping practices
exchange fork-lift batteries when necessary
date and complete the required paperwork
perform other duties specified by their supervisor
follow the ISO Quality System
