Assembly Worker (1st and 2nd Shifts)


Job Details

Assembles steel joist components ready for final welding; performs such work consistent with corporate mission, values and department's financial objectives.

  • Sets up jigs, reads and interprets shop drawings necessary for such work.
  • Moves parts into position.
  • Aligns parts.
  • Tack welds or clamps parts into position ready for moving along conveyor to final welding area.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor including, but not limited to, cleaning, metal scrap removal and other joist assembly-related activities.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Six months experience in a heavy manufacturing environment, steel industry preferred.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written and oral instructions.

Physical Requirements

  • The ability to stand continuously, walk, use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls.
  • Frequently reach overhead with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, bend crouch, or crawl.
  • Climb or balance frequently.
  • Capable of lifting 50 lbs or more
  • Close vision, distant vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus

Work Environment

  • Work near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions.
  • Regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles.
  • Noise in the work environment is generally very loud.

PPEs Required

The following PPEs will be required to be worn at all times:

  • Hard hat
  • Metatarsal safety boots
  • Safety glasses
  • Ear plugs
  • Tacking shield
  • Welding sleeves
  • Leather gloves
