Job Details
Assembles steel joist components ready for final welding; performs such work consistent with corporate mission, values and department's financial objectives.
- Sets up jigs, reads and interprets shop drawings necessary for such work.
- Moves parts into position.
- Aligns parts.
- Tack welds or clamps parts into position ready for moving along conveyor to final welding area.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor including, but not limited to, cleaning, metal scrap removal and other joist assembly-related activities.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Six months experience in a heavy manufacturing environment, steel industry preferred.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written and oral instructions.
Physical Requirements
- The ability to stand continuously, walk, use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls.
- Frequently reach overhead with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, bend crouch, or crawl.
- Climb or balance frequently.
- Capable of lifting 50 lbs or more
- Close vision, distant vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus
Work Environment
- Work near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions.
- Regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles.
- Noise in the work environment is generally very loud.
PPEs Required
The following PPEs will be required to be worn at all times:
- Hard hat
- Metatarsal safety boots
- Safety glasses
- Ear plugs
- Tacking shield
- Welding sleeves
- Leather gloves
