We are looking for a Produce Buyer to temporarily join the Sunbasket team for parental leave coverage. The Produce Buyer is responsible for the generation of purchase orders and inventory maintenance for the DC on all ingredients and packaging determined by the recipe specifications. The Produce Buyer will manage day-to-day purchase orders based on MRP plans and business forecasts, adjusting purchases as needed for just-in-time delivery. The team is responsible for purchasing all the ingredients needed for the Operations team to produce / fulfill customer orders. Each product category has its own unique set of item requirements, vendors to manage, lead times, quality specs, etc.

The Produce Buyer is responsible for all vendor communication regarding PO creation and status, managing adjustments as needed, handling product quality issues and interfacing with the Operations team to handle any replenishment issues of the day/week.

This role is approximately 4-7 months, on a fixed-term basis starting in January of 2022, working 40 hours per week. This position is not remote, but the team rotates working from home on a hybrid schedule.

* Flexible start time (7am/8am)

* Full-Time, 40 hours a week (OT/On call as needed)

**What you'll be doing:**

* Determine and execute the purchases needed to support weekly operations

* Purchase and maintain accurate levels of inventory to fulfill production of meals. Maintain overall inventory days on hand at prescribed levels.

* Develop contingency plans for any shortages, manage all short supplies and secure product as needed.

* Minimize purchasing overages and waste, utilizing forecasting models and yields.

* Prevent and reduce overstock conditions, slow-moving and obsolete inventory.

* Process damaged and spoiled product returns to suppliers.

* Ensure vendors are aware of and abide by product policies, delivery and invoice guidelines.

* Enforce supplier standards and protocols to fit Sun Basket brand commitment and all compliance requirements.

* Work directly with QA team to ensure highest product quality and vendor compliance.

* Cross-train with other regional buyers and provide back-up when needed.

* Work closely with logistics and transportation to identify and achieve freight consolidation and on time deliveries.

* Reconcile invoices with receiving, purchase orders, billing, credits, etc.

**Who you are, and why you're right for us:**

* 3+ years of experience in procurement and material sourcing in the food industry; experience with fresh produce and/or grocery is highly preferred.

* Ability to build strong relationships throughout all levels of the organization and vendors

* Ability to integrate sourcing solutions with forecasting systems for 100% fill rate, drive aggressive implementation plans and schedules

* Excellent communication, organization, analytical, research and negotiation skills

* Strong organization and planning skills amidst a busy workplace

* Advanced Excel and Word proficiency with a fondness of spreadsheets

* Demonstrated ERP and other purchasing systems experience and working knowledge of procurement software solutions required

* Proven ability to simultaneously handle multiple priorities and deadlines with laser-sharp attention to detail

* Self-motivated, results-oriented, entrepreneurial, passionate, fun, proactive, creative and a team player

* Able to work independently with minimal direction

* Must be able to work on weekends and change work schedule as needed

* Ability to work in a refrigerated environment of at least 40 degrees
