ur well-trained Won-Door technicians rank among the most skilled professionals in the construction industry - responsible for installing large and complex doors with mechanical, electronic and code-compliance aspects. As the face of the company, we rely on our Won-Door technicians to provide an outstanding experience to our general contractor and end-user customers while installing and servicing our life-saving fire and security doors. Our technicians are positioned near major metropolitan areas around the country and cover geographic territories generally extending from 100 to 250 miles from their home base depending on population density. Technicians work from their own homes and use their own trucks, with products to be installed shipped directly to the job sites. Jobs are dispatched to our technicians by a support team based at Won-Door's headquarters in Salt-Lake City, Utah.

Compensation & Benefits Our technicians are members of the Local Carpenters Union #801 with attractive compensation and benefits negotiated as part of a collective bargaining agreement. Depending upon their experience level, our apprentices earn $18.98 to $24.40 per hour plus union benefits for their first 6-12 months while they are paired with an experienced journeyman for training. Once promoted, hourly rates for journeymen increase to Union negotiated rates for their work location plus performance bonuses for completed work. Our average journeyman makes W2 earnings of $100,000 per year, and the top 10% make more than $150,000 per year.

Our technicians are reimbursed for usage of their vehicles based on the optional standard mileage rate established by the Internal Revenue Service and are paid per diem rates to cover other travel expenses.

During their apprenticeship period our technicians live in the home territory of their journeyman trainer. Once promoted to journeyman and returned to their home base city, our technicians average approximately 33% of their time on overnight travel assignments.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. We are looking for a successful candidate who will be responsible for installing, troubleshooting, perform repairs along with scheduled maintenance on equipment based on customer's demand. Successful Technician will promote our service and products in a professional manner and provide customer satisfaction when taking care of the customer.
  • Install equipment in an efficient, safe and professional manner.
  • Perform maintenance efficiently and effectively on automatic, accordion door systems.
  • Diagnose faulty equipment and apply knowledge of functional operation of unit and systems to identify the extent and cause of malfunction.
  • Able to read and understand complex installation and service schematics, wiring diagrams and implement as needed.
  • Work with dispatch team to maximize labor revenue and efficiency within the work schedule while accounting for 100% of work time.
  • Use hand and power tools in compliance with OSHA standards.
  • Completes work orders on computer-based documents according to established procedures
  • Project a positive image when interacting customers, employees and management in a cooperative, supportive and courteous manner.
  • Communicate and work with the parts and sales departments to ensure the customer's needs are being met; immediately report any potential customer issues that need to be addressed and communicate positively and courteously with our customers.
  • Travel throughout coverage area. Regular Overnight travel.
  • Able to work independently and make autonomous decisions.
  • Able to train new Technicians and provide support to other Technicians as needed.
  • Drive safely and efficiently from point to point in service area.
  • Proactively support our safety program and initiatives, comply with all safety policies and procedures and ensure utilization of safe work practices on site, in the warehouse and office.
  • Performs work in a variety of customer environments including exposure to elements and in-climate weather.


Qualifications

  • minimum of a high school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required.
  • Advanced Mechanical and electrical skills required
  • Advanced Troubleshooting skills required
  • Excellent Customer Service skills required
  • Knowledge of commercial construction standards is preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate basic math and read a tape measure

REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Valid driver's license.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee works in many different environments including construction sites, hospitals, pharmaceuticals facilities, business offices and retail locations and is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, extreme cold, extreme heat, risk of electrical shock, and vibration.
