Job Description:

This is a Fall Co-op, running from July to December. On-site in Billerica, MA

Core Purpose:
The Membrane R&D Co-op would support R&D activities needed to the development of novel membranes for gas purification.

In this role, you will:
Synthesize polymers via radical or step-growth polymerization.
Collaborate with scientists to manufacture functionalized membranes.
Characterize membranes using analytical instrumentation or other techniques.
Keep appropriate experimental records in a laboratory notebook.
Communicate technical results to the research group.
Analyze the properties of various membranes made with a series of resins. Compare the performance of the membranes to purify gases and select the best one.
Collaborate with other group team members at Entegris and ship materials, analyze samples, and make standardized tests.
Analyze laboratory results and provide creative alternatives to solve technical challenges to functionalize membranes.
Keep experimental records in a laboratory notebook and report data obtained in experiments in an clear way.
Optimize time to perform a various activities needed to synthesize additives, manufacture and characterize membranes.
Provide accurate results to the membrane modification group.

You're a good fit if you have:
Creativity/ingenuity to overcome technical challenges.
Interest in learning additives/particle synthesis. Basic organic chemistry knowledge needed (chemist or chemical engineer. Senior students preferred).
Aptitude to perform systematic analysis of laboratory results.
Ability to design and follow standard operation procedures (SOPs). (Attention to good safety practices).
Good team attitude to collaborate with scientists to manufacture membranes. Communication skills for teamwork.

Desired Major & Graduation Date:
Senior students (close to graduation)
Chemistry (preferred)
Chemical engineering/material science (acceptable)

Physical Requirements:
Laboratory work (Handle chemicals and instruments in a laboratory setting)
