This role can be based in Maryland or DC. This is a hybrid role. You will be required to go into the office 1-3 times per week.

Purpose

The Senior Corporate Communications Consultant for Public and Media Relations will lead the development of media/press communication plans and implementation of outreach for special events, programs and major initiatives. This role will support the delivery of innovative media and external communications strategies that build and protect CareFirst s brand and reputation, position the company as a leader in the marketplace and position CareFirst executives as thought leaders on a range of issues.

Essential Functions

The Senior Corporate Communications Consultant for Public and Media Relations will:Enhance and maintain positive relationships with media contacts, key influencers, and digital communicators to help promote CareFirst s work and impact.Identify and implement ways to elevate the organization s profile in the communities CareFirst serves and connect with its stakeholders, through proactive media outreach, events, press conferences, community partnerships and new corporate initiatives and product launches.Proactively plan and write targeted content, including press releases, talking points, blogs, opinion commentaries, thought leadership content and feature stories.Prepare proactive and reactive media responses and story ideas that support and enrich CareFirst s narrative as a community champion and leading employer.Coordinate interviews and media training and preparation for the company s executives.Develop crisis communications strategies and lead a collaborative, cross-functional team to execute each element of the plan.Monitor media coverage of CareFirst, its competitors and issues/policies making news on the healthcare landscape.

Supervisory Responsibility

Position does not have direct reports but is expected to assist in guiding and mentoring less experienced staff. May lead a team of matrixed resources.

Qualifications

Education Level: Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing or a related field OR in lieu of a Bachelor's degree, an additional 4 years of relevant work experience is required in addition to the required work experience.

Experience: 8 years professional, strategic communications, public relations and event experience.

Preferred Qualifications3 years of healthcare industry experience.Good understanding of healthcare trends.An understanding of government regulations and experience dealing with government regulations.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities (KSAs)Experience working in a matrix organization with proven capabilities to align corporate initiatives with communication, engagement and outreach strategies.A proven track record for superb written and oral communications; excellent proofreading and editing skills, and a passion for creating engaging content for an executive audience.A keen attention to detail and the ability to prioritize and manage a variety of tasks simultaneously; sometimes under pressure and often tight deadlines.Ability to establish strong relationships across departments and an understanding of CareFirst s mission, vision and values and operational capabilities.Demonstrated skill and comfort in proactively building relationships with partners.Exceptional oral and presentation skills. A professional writer who produces clear and compelling executive communications materials and briefs.Must be professional, organized, enthusiastic and a team player who can work independently.A creative thinker who embraces and drives change.A strong relationship builder and influencer who is comfortable working with leaders at all levels.Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet targeted deadlines.

Salary Range: $75,168 - $149,292
