Job Title: Resident District Manager, AVI Foodsystems

Location: Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania


Job Summary:


The Resident District Manager at AVI Foodsystems is responsible for delivering high-quality, service-oriented food service operations at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. This role requires an energetic, approachable, and highly visible leader with a demonstrated track record of building high-performing teams and delivering excellent results in a complex academic medical center environment setting. The ideal candidate should have a strong background in operational excellence, financial management, team leadership, client relationship management, and procurement processes in a large academic medical center.


Core Responsibilities:


Strategic Leadership & Operational Management:

Provide strategic and operational leadership to all aspects of the HUP Food services operation (Patient Services, Retail, and Catering)

Develop department policies and procedures that facilitate safe, effective, and service-oriented delivery of services.

Recruit, hire, train, and develop departmental line staff and management to support AVI and HUP shared objectives

Create a culture of service by regularly reviewing and communicating internal/external customer feedback with team members and making operational adjustments based on identified trends/opportunities

Drive and sustain operational and safety initiatives.

Financial Management & Procurement:


Develop annual operating budget in collaboration with HUP and AVI executive leadership

Develop and implement financial controls to ensure real-time visibility of financial KPIs (revenue, labor expense, and COGS

Actively monitor key performance indicators (KPIs), with a focus on achieving performance-based financial incentives and mitigating performance-based disincentives.

Collaborate with procurement teams to ensure the supply chain aligns with operational needs and financial objectives.

Quality Assurance & Compliance:


Uphold high standards of safety, sanitation, and patient nutrition.

Ensure adherence to healthcare regulations, with a focus on patient experience as measured by Press Ganey

Maintain a level of continued survey readiness to ensure compliance with all relevant safety, sanitation, infection control and regulatory requirements

Team Leadership & Development:


Lead a diverse team of 36 managers and over 300 unionized hourly employees in a demanding and fast-paced environment.

Implement team cohesion and staff retention strategies, addressing challenges related to behavior and performance.

Implement reward and recognition programs to incentivize and reward desired behaviors and outcomes

Promote a positive and efficient working environment, focusing on professional growth and leadership development.

Proven team builder and motivator.

Client Relationship & Stakeholder Engagement:


Develop and cultivate strong relationships with key stakeholders at the hospital.

Represent AVI Foodsystems in interactions with hospital executives, ensuring service alignment with culinary and operational standards.

Communicate AVI s vision and value across hospital services, maintaining excellent client relationships.

Requirements and Qualifications:


Educational Background: Bachelor s degree in Hospitality, Business Administration, Nutrition, or related field. A Master s degree or equivalent is preferred.


Professional Experience:


Minimum of 10 years of acute care healthcare foodservice leadership experience, preferably in a complex academic medical center environment.

Demonstrated experience in multi-unit management with a total managed volume in excess of $20 million

Experience in managing large teams and client relationships in complex AMC setting

Skills and Abilities:


Strong leadership, team-building, and communication skills.

In-depth financial acumen and strategic planning abilities.

Experience in procurement and supply chain management.

Knowledge of healthcare compliance, quality assurance, and patient satisfaction metrics, including Press Ganey scores.

Experience in Lean Six Sigma processes and union management.
