Position Overview: We are seeking a dedicated and vigilant Security Guard to join our team at a homeless shelter in Downtown San Diego. The Security Guard will play a crucial role in maintaining a safe and secure environment for residents and staff. This position requires excellent communication skills, strong observational abilities, and a compassionate approach to working with individuals experiencing homelessness.
Responsibilities:
- Patrol and Monitor: Conduct regular patrols of the shelter premises to deter unauthorized activity and ensure the safety of residents, staff, and property.
- Monitor Access: Control access to the shelter, including screening individuals entering the facility, verifying identification, and ensuring compliance with shelter rules and policies.
- Respond to Incidents: Promptly respond to security incidents, emergencies, disturbances, or any other issues that arise within the shelter, and take appropriate action as necessary.
- Maintain Order: Enforce shelter rules and regulations in a fair and consistent manner, while also promoting a respectful and supportive environment for all residents.
- Provide Assistance: Offer assistance and support to residents as needed, including directing them to available resources, providing information about shelter services, and responding to inquiries or concerns.
- Collaborate with Staff: Work closely with shelter staff, including case managers, social workers, and other support personnel, to address security-related issues and coordinate responses to resident needs.
- Document and Report: Maintain accurate records of security incidents, observations, and daily activities, and promptly report any significant incidents or concerns to appropriate personnel.
- Emergency Preparedness: Assist in implementing emergency procedures and protocols, including evacuations, lockdowns, and other safety measures, in accordance with shelter policies and guidelines.
- Maintain Professionalism: Conduct oneself in a professional and courteous manner at all times, demonstrating respect, empathy, and cultural sensitivity towards shelter residents and visitors.
Qualifications:
- Active BSIS issued Guard Card
- Reliable Transportation (we do not consider public transportation as reliable)
- Prior experience in security, law enforcement, or a related field is highly desirable.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations.
- Demonstrated ability to remain calm under pressure and handle challenging situations with tact and diplomacy.
- Excellent observational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to identify potential security risks or unusual behavior.
- Physical fitness and the ability to perform routine security tasks, including standing, walking, and occasionally lifting or restraining individuals if necessary.
- Knowledge of basic security procedures, emergency response protocols, and relevant laws or regulations.
- Commitment to upholding ethical standards, confidentiality, and respect for the rights and dignity of shelter residents.
