Senior Insurance Defense Attorney


Job Details

We are working with a great Texas law firm boutique seeking an attorney with a minimum of 10-15 (+) years litigation experience, preferably in a high volume, dynamic, insurance defense/commercial litigation practice, to join its San Antonio office. Defense side trucking litigation and/or construction defect experience is a candidate plus. Trial experience is also a plus. Salary is $175,000-$180,000 (depending upon experience). The firm currently offers merit-based bonuses twice annually, as well, opportunities for advancement for significantly greater compensation, and a terrific benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision insurance, substantially subsidized by the employer; $50,000 of employer-paid life insurance; short-term and long-term disability insurance; flexible spending and dependent care accounts; a 401(k) plan with an employer match; ten (10) holidays; and three (3) weeks of vacation. The position is in-office with some flexibility for work from home, as reasonably needed. Candidates must be active members of the Texas bar in good standing.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage an active case load throughout Texas.
  • Manage timely reporting to clients and insureds.
  • Maintain client satisfaction, providing prompt communication before, during and after cases.
  • Research the law applicable to cases or matters; draft legal documents, pleadings, motions, briefs, memoranda, and opinions as required.
  • Remain current with developments in the law.
  • Conduct discovery; hearings; trials; depositions (taking and defending); oral arguments; mediations; arbitrations; administrative and similar proceedings, as required; and properly prepare clients, insureds, and other persons, as necessary and appropriate, in relevant litigation contexts.
  • Effectively communicate and persuade using written and verbal skills.
  • Coordinate with experts, when appropriate.
  • Conduct settlement negotiations, as appropriate.
  • Do all other work necessary to provide vigorous advocacy to the client.
  • Meet all deadlines in a timely manner providing completed work product to the supervising attorney sufficiently in advance of any deadline for constructive discussion of options.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Litigation experience: 10-15 (+) yrs. (Required)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Transportation/Trucking experience (a plus)
  • Construction Defect experience (a plus)
  • Computer and software proficiency (Required)
  • Active member of the Texas State Bar (Required)


Other Details:

  • Salary: $175,000-$180,000 (commensurate with attorney experience)
  • Benefits:
  • The firm offers two (2)United Healthcare medical plan options: a traditional deductible PPO and a high deductible PPO. If an employee elects the high deductible plan, the firm contributes $1000.00 (allocated monthly) to the employee s HSA. The firm pays a significant portion of each employee s premium and also contributes to dependents premiums at a lower percentage.

  • Eligibility for all benefits begins on the first (1st) day of the month following the employee s start date, except for the 401(k) plan, which has a three (3) month waiting period.
  • Work Environment: On-site with some flexibility regarding remote work.
