Youth Coaches- starting @ $18/hour


Job Details

We are seeking friendly and enthusiastic youth coaches to create a safe and positive environment that can teach fundamentals of basketball, soccer and other sports to children ages 3-8, while promoting fair play, teamwork and sportsmanship.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Our coaches collaborate to ensure that youth classes and clinics run smoothly, and that participants of all ages and backgrounds have a safe and memorable experience. Classes and clinics are on Saturdays from 8:30am-12:30pm, for kids ages 3-10. Coaches focus on teaching the fundamentals, and help beginners develop their individual skills and teamwork. This is a beginner's youth program.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Plan and lead safe, fun skills and drills for youth new to the sport.
  2. Maintain standards of conduct for all program participants. Encourage a positive atmosphere using YMCA practices for behavior management, positive re-enforcement and engagement.
  3. Demonstrate the creativity and initiative necessary to change, develop and adapt program offerings as needed to continually support Y goals and values.
  4. Set up and take down class equipment.
  5. Take class/clinic attendance.
  6. Follow YMCA policies and procedures, such as emergency respondent protocol.
  7. Support special events, assists in other areas, and perform other duties as required.


WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Physically perform all skills required of a basketball coach. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions
  • Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions of position
  • Must occasionally lift up to 30 lbs
  • Visual ability to clearly monitor activities
  • Mobility to quickly respond to emergencies


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • One year of youth development experience or coaching basketball, soccer, or other sports
  • Ability to demonstrate an understanding of the fundamentals of a given sport to youth ages 3-8
  • CPR/AED and First Aid certifications, such as Red Cross and American Heart Association within the first 30 days of employment
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community


Availability:Saturdays 8:30am-12:30pm, starting April 20th

This is a part-time position. A membership to the YMCA's of the East Bay is included.
