Photonics Systems Control Engineer


Job Details

Xscape Photonics is looking for a highly skilled Photonics System Control Engineer with expertise in developing and implementing control algorithms for various photonics components as well as photonics systems. This role presents an exciting opportunity for individuals passionate about silicon photonics and high-speed optical communication systems for emerging AI/ML applications.


Responsibilities


  • Develop and implement control algorithms for initialization and stabilization of photonics components including lasers, ring modulators, MZI based multiplexer/demultiplexers, and ring based filters.
  • Implement photonics system control consisting of multiple control loops across various photonics components, by working closely with hardware and firmware engineers.
  • Design and implement test plans, methodologies, and protocols for control system validation.
  • Conduct control system validation tests to evaluate signal quality and system performance under various environmental stimulus.
  • Utilize data analysis and statistical data visualization techniques to derive insights from measurement data.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to provide technical expertise and contribute to product development and improvement.


Qualifications


  • Master's degree in Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field with minimum of 5 years of industry experience or PhD in Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field with minimum of 2 years of industry experience.
  • Proficiency in closed control loop theory and implementation methodology in software and hardware including PID control theory and signal processing techniques.
  • Experience with MCU and FPGA programming for photonics system control.
  • Proficiency in optical test equipment, such as optical spectrum analyzers, optical power meters, and interferometers.
  • Knowledge of photonics components and systems, including lasers, optical amplifiers, modulators, optical filters and photodetectors.
  • Familiarity with optical simulation and modeling tools.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
