Job Description:

Description of Duties:The University at Albany is seeking a dynamic and experienced individual to serve as the Assistant Director of Economic Development and Business Partnerships. This position plays a critical role in advancing the university's mission of fostering economic growth and innovation within the region. The Assistant Director will work closely with internal and external stakeholders to develop and implement strategies that promote collaboration between the university and the business community.Job duties include, but are not limited to:Develops, revises, and updates project budgets and provides guidance and support in the development of new contracts and grant applications.Develop and execute strategies to foster economic development and business partnerships that align with the university's goals and priorities.Cultivate and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including local businesses, government agencies, industry organizations, and community leaders.Identify opportunities for collaboration and partnership between the university and external entities to support economic growth and innovation.Provide guidance and support to faculty, researchers, and students interested in engaging with the business community to commercialize research, develop entrepreneurial ventures, or participate in industry-focused projects.Serve as a liaison between the university and external organizations seeking to leverage the university's resources, expertise, and talent.Coordinate and facilitate workshops, seminars, and events aimed at promoting entrepreneurship, innovation, and workforce development.Collaborate with university departments and centers involved in economic development activities to ensure alignment and synergy across initiatives.Stay informed about trends, policies, and best practices in economic development, technology commercialization, and industry engagement.Prepare reports, presentations, and other communications materials to communicate the impact and outcomes of economic development initiatives.Manage budgets, grants, and other resources associated with economic development and business partnership programs.Additional Responsibilities:Grant Writing and Fundraising: Identify funding opportunities, prepare grant proposals, and secure external funding to support economic development initiatives, research projects, and collaborative partnerships.Program Development and Management: Lead the evaluation of programs and initiatives that support economic development, entrepreneurship, and innovation within the university and the broader community.Workforce Development: Collaborate with academic departments, industry partners, and workforce development agencies to address regional workforce needs through education, training, and professional development programs.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications :Bachelor's degree in business administration, finance, economics, public administration, entrepreneurship and innovation, or closely related field such as, marketing, technology and information systems, urban and regional planning.Minimum of 5 years of experience in economic development, business development, or a related field, such as, finance and economics, public policy and government administration, urban and regional planning, international development, marketing and sales, and technology.Demonstrated track record of successfully developing and implementing economic development initiatives, fostering business partnerships, and driving entrepreneurship and innovation.Strong interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders.Knowledge of economic development principles, policies, and practices, as well as regional economic trends and opportunities.Ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively in a team environment.Understanding of Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software applications.Applicants must demonstrate an ability to develop inclusive and equitable relationships within our diverse campus community.Applicants must demonstrate an ability to support diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and belonging, relative to their role.Preferred Qualifications:Master's degree in business administration, economics, public administration, or a related field.Experience in economic development or business development in higher education or with a research institution.Experience in project management, budgeting, and grant administration.

Additional Information:

Salary Range : $80,000- $90,000 (annual)Subject to change, this position may be eligible for up to 50% alternative workplace arrangement after a probationary period.Federal law and regulations require notice to all prospective employees regarding crimes that have occurred on campus in the current three year period.
