Job Summary

UT Health San Antonio is broadening its reach in clinical care with the opening of the new UT Health San Antonio Multispecialty & Research Hospital. This eight-story 144-bed facility will offer uninterrupted patient care in one location within San Antonio, TX, the 7th largest city in the U.S.

The Administrative House Supervisor, Lead will work off-shifts to support nursing operations in an administrative role at the UT Health San Antonio Multispecialty & Research Hospital. This role will have clinical and operational oversight in addition to human resource management. The role of the Administrative House Supervisor, Lead will have oversight of bedflow, staffing, and Administrative House Supervisor staff.

Job Duties:

  • Directly supervises Patient Flow, Staffing Coordinators, and Administrative House Supervisors. Indirectly supervises and evaluates the provision of patient care by other personnel assigned to the units in the absence of individual unit leadership.
  • Makes unit and patient rounds throughout the shift. Understands the general clinical status of patients on each unit in efforts to best assist staff. Ensures support and guidance is provided as well as responding to patient or family concerns when escalation is necessary.
  • Utilizes opportunities to teach and mentor other nursing and ancillary personnel. Mentors staff to meet established productivity targets as appropriate. Reviews staffing/nursing assignments and revises as necessary to meet the specific needs of the units on a shift-by-shift basis.
  • Implements established department staffing plans for all units, while working with unit leadership to understand acuity and needs. Coordinates staffing with Central Staffing Office/Flow Coordinators and charge nurses. Makes ongoing changes to staffing as determined by fluctuations in census and patient acuity, to assure safe delivery of care.
  • Ensures that patient bed assignments are appropriate based on needs of patient, skills of staff, infection control policies.
  • Responds to all Code Blue, Emergency Response Team calls to provide support during Code Blue/RRT, to staff and family.
  • Acts as a liaison for off-hour departments when services required; i.e, surgery, CT, MRI, etc.
  • Role models pro-active problem solving by collaborating with staff to ensure effective resolution of identified issues.
  • Utilizes chain of command for unresolved or escalating issues and advocates for patients and staff to provide for safe delivery of care and/or a safe environment of care.
  • Provides timely, confidential coaching and/or counseling of nursing personnel as appropriate and follows up with accurate reports to Unit Manager.
  • Promotes and enthusiastically supports professional growth of staff.
  • Responsible for maintaining/improving/implementing plans for employee engagement scores.
  • Assures first person reporting of events through Event Reporting System. Ensures all staff are competent in entering event reports and serves as a resource when necessary. Investigates facts of event reports. Facilitates timely receipt of these reports for follow-up by the Unit Manager and notifies Nurse Manager/Risk Manager immediately of high-risk situations.
  • Actively participates and supports quality assurance and improvement programs. Supports maintaining/improving/implementing plans for patient satisfaction survey scores.
  • Works with Directors, Unit Managers, Care Management/Coordination, Physicians, Nurse Navigators, and other disciplines to streamline discharge of patients and achieve goals for discharge efficiency.
  • Collects information and maintains records regarding performance and contributions on an ongoing basis throughout the fiscal year. Provides input and/or conducts annual performance reviews and orientation evaluation of personnel assigned to the department.
  • Coordinates self-scheduling to maintain appropriate coverage for department needs. Maintains daily attendance records, monitoring for trends that require intervention i.e., late clock-ins, incremental overtime, missed punches, etc.
  • May be delegated responsibility for inventory control of equipment and supplies to ensure safe and effective patient care. Facilitates timely return of rented or borrowed specialty equipment.
  • Assists with staff meetings, special projects and the development, implementation, and evaluation of performance improvement activities. Communicates data and solicits input from staff regarding performance and quality improvement i.e., patient safety, infection control.
  • Actively participates on hospital work groups.
  • Assists leadership in conducting accreditation readiness audits to assess compliance with standards.
  • Supports shared leadership structure and works collaboratively to accomplish goals and positively influence and support team members.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor s degree or higher from an accredited School of Nursing
  • Master s degree preferred
  • Five (5) years of professional nursing experience to include at least one (1) year experience in area of specialty and two (2) years in a house supervisor role is required
  • Current Texas BON Texas RN license or Temporary TX RN license, should obtain permanent license within 90 days or Compact license according to current Texas Board of Nursing requirements, should obtain permanent license once legal residency is established in the state of Texas
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
  • NIHSS

TRS is a defined benefit retirement plan which UT Health matches employee contributions. ORP is for eligible faculty staff employees. Voluntary retirement programs are also available to invest before- or after-tax dollars with the choice of five quality retirement plan providers.


Time Off- A generous leave program offers multiple paid leave options:


Front-loaded Paid Time Off: 128 to 208 hours (16 to 26 days) of Paid Time Off based on years of service, given at the start of each fiscal year. PTO may be prorated in year one based on date of hire.


Extended Illness Bank: 8 hours (1 day) accrued per month which can be used for illness or injury after one day of Paid Time Off is taken.


Paid Family Leave: Up to 240 hours (6 weeks) to care for a spouse, child, or parent after 6 months of consecutive employment.


Holidays: 12 set paid holidays each year plus three floating holidays, which can be used anytime during the fiscal year.


FSAs- Employees can enroll in flexible spending accounts (FSAs) to set aside money from earnings before taxes for qualifying dependent day care expenses or out-of-pocket health care expenses.
