DESCRIPTIVE STATEMENT:

This is a non-exempt, seasonal position limited to 1300 hours annually. Under the supervision of the Code Enforcement Manager and the Lead Code Enforcement Officer, assists the Code Enforcement officers by performing unskilled to semi-skilled work in a variety of fields in the abatement process. Cuts grass, remove weeds, loads and unloads dirt, gravel, trash and other debris and boards up vacant unsecured properties. Collects and disposes of refuse in the assigned areas. Previous experience using a push mower, weed cutter and hand tools preferred.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Operates push mowers, weed eaters, chain saws, rakes, shovels sprayers, blowers and other hand tools.
  • Cuts grass and weeds with mowers and weed eaters. Operates, chain saws, loppers and other equipment.
  • Operates a variety of hand tools and power equipment.
  • Loads and unloads dirt, gravel and other putrescible and nonputrescible debris.
  • Loads and unloads hazardous materials, bed bugs, biting insects, mouse droppings, hypodermic needles etc.
  • Loads and disposes of household trash and other debris.
  • Cleans, maintains and services equipment and tools.
Performs other duties and special projects as assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

Physical Requirements:
The physical standards an employee must meet in order to perform the essential job duties with or without a reasonable accommodation include, but are not limited to:
  • Ability to lift, carry, push and/or pull objects weighing up to 45 lbs., will occasionally lift loads of up to 100lbs.
  • Considerable walking and standing on steep, uneven, or icy terrain, as well as other activities requiring a full range of body movement including bending, kneeling, leaning, sitting, stooping, crouching, pushing, pulling, and climbing
  • Frequent hand/foot/eye coordination for operation of computer equipment and motor vehicles
  • Ability to hear verbal instructions and communication from customers and fellow employees by telephone or in person, and warning signals
  • Frequently climbs ladders and stairs in a multi-level facility to perform general custodial work.
  • Uses manual dexterity to manipulate supplies, tools, and equipment.
  • Uses visual acuity to read operating manuals and instructions; safely operate a vehicle and equipment; identify hazards; and perform daily functions.
  • Frequently performs activities requiring a full range of body movements including sitting, bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, crawling, twisting, and balancing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age
  • Customer service skills preferred
  • Previous experience using a push mower, weed cutter and some hand tools preferred

City of Pueblo Temporary and Seasonal Employee Sick Leave Benefits
Beginning January 1, 2021, all employers in Colorado are required to provide paid sick leave to employees under the Healthy Families and Workplaces Act ("HFWA"). Said leave is accrued at one hour of paid sick leave for every 30 hours worked, up to a maximum of 48 hours.
Per the Act, leave may be used for any of the following reasons:
  • The employee has a mental or physical illness, injury, or health condition; needs a medical diagnosis, care, or treatment related to such illness, injury, or condition; or needs to obtain preventive medical care.
  • The employee needs to care for a family member who has a mental or physical illness, injury, or health condition; needs a medical diagnosis, care, or treatment related to such illness, injury, or condition; or needs to obtain preventive medical care.
  • The employee or family member has been the victim of domestic abuse, sexual assault, or harassment and needs to be absent from work for purposes related to such crime; or
  • A public official has ordered the closure of the school or place of care of the employee's child or of the employee's place of business due to a public health emergency, necessitating the employee's absence from work.


Consistent with the HWFA, part-time temporary and seasonal employees of the City shall not carry forward more than forty-eight (48) hours of unused sick leave from one year to the next.

City employment as a temporary or seasonal employee means that the most you can expect to work is 1300 hours in a calendar year. Depending on the work schedule required by the hiring department, this means more time to spend with your family and/or doing other activities.
