Senior Research Engineer - Building Science and Construction
Mechanical/Electrical/Architectural/Civil/Structural Engineer
Home Innovation Research Labs is seeking a senior research engineer to join our Building Science Division. This person will be responsible for project work in the areas of energy efficiency, disaster resistance, cost evaluation, technology innovation, sustainability, and carbon-neutral research in residential construction.
Requirements:
- 10-15 years of relevant experience (minimum).
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical/Civil/Electrical/Architectural/Structural Engineering
- Demonstrated experience with building science and construction technologies for single-family and multifamily applications.
- Demonstrated experience with applied research in areas of disaster mitigation and resilience.
- Extensive knowledge of building codes and design standards.
- Practical knowledge of the residential building industry and construction processes.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities with excellent attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills (demonstrated written articles, reports, and presentations at conferences).
Additional preferred set of skills:
Knowledge of sustainable principles and green rating systems
Knowledge of data analysis and presentation skills.
Energy Modeling Skills is a plus.
Engineering Economics and Cost of Construction/Estimating experience is a plus.
Drafting/Design skills a plus
Responsibilities:
- Lead research and analysis for government and industry clients with focus on advancing construction technology in the areas of energy efficiency, disaster resistance, durability, sustainability, and carbon-neutral buildings.
- Perform analytical and applied/experimental research in high-performance buildings.
- Conduct evaluation of technologies in residential construction in the laboratory and the field.
- Participate in codes and standards development forums.
Interpret and apply model building codes for comparative studies of regulation.
Provide technical assistance and guidance for code and energy standards and regulation.
