Job Duties

The Virginia State Bar seeks an editor for Virginia Lawyer magazine, the official publication of the Virginia State Bar. This position writes original, informative articles for the magazine; coordinates with staff and lawyer member contributors on substantive articles for themed issues; and reviews and edits unsolicited and solicited articles, professional notices, and classified ads to be published. This position also writes and edits other communication materials such as press releases, brochures, reports, disciplinary summaries, and monthly mass-market member news emails, ensuring accuracy, relevance, and consistency of style. In addition, the editor will assist the Communications team with advertising sales and invoicing for Virginia Lawyer, social media writing and posting, website writing and posting, photography, and departmental projects. This position is required to work in the Richmond office and will occasionally travel for events. Employees are eligible to telework one day per week after six months.

Minimum Qualifications

The successful candidate will have the following qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, public relations, or related field
Legal writing and editing experience for print and digital content
Exceptional command of the English language
Exceptional editorial judgement and attention to detail
Organized and able to deliver results under tight deadlines and short turnaround schedules
Able to work independently and as part of a team
Proficient with Microsoft Office; experience with Adobe Acrobat and Photoshop software
Experience in marketing, advertising, photography and/or videography a plus
Success completion of a criminal background check
