Summary of the Position:
The Procurement Category Manager is responsible for timely, efficient, ethical, and cost-effective negotiation and purchasing for ingredients and services, as required.
Functions Performed:
- Participates in strategic sourcing including vendor selection as well as contract and price negotiation for all JBSS facilities to ensure uninterrupted supply and competitive pricing. Ensures contracts with vendors are documented and consistent with corporate objectives under the direction of the Sr. Director, Procurement. Tracks and communicates industry price trends and competitive situations to senior management.
- Collaborates with other departments on new ingredient sourcing, new product development, and sample requests. Establishes strong relationships with internal stakeholders including: Product Development, Quality Assurance, Technical & Regulatory Services, and Sales & Marketing.
- Responsible for placing purchase orders and follow-up up on status to ensure quality and on-time deliveries. Responsible for managing inventory for each assigned category in coordination with other departments to ensure proper inventory levels are maintained company-wide and obsolete inventory is dispositioned on a timely basis.
- Manages supplier scorecards for key suppliers and solicits input from internal stakeholders to ensure cross functional alignment on preferred suppliers. Maintains Vendor Deficiency Log (SQF Requirement).
- Establishes and continuously improves purchasing policies, objectives, systems, and procedures.
- Works on special projects and assignments as necessary.
Qualifications:
Education, Experience, and Knowledge:
- Five or more years of experience in ingredient sourcing and purchasing required.
Skills and Competencies:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Quality planning, analytical skills, and ability to work with other departments necessary.
- Computer skills with Microsoft Office applications necessary.
