Job Description SummaryThe Machinist will set up, program, machine and inspect production/prototype parts for generators, starters and other rotating assemblies. Position is available on either 2nd or 3rd shift based on preference.Job DescriptionPay starts at $26 per hour, with NSB 5.5% for 2nd and 9.5% for 3rd shift. Position will require training on days for several months before going to preferred shift, but NSB will be paid during training period.ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITESOperate a variety of machining tools with a high degree of skill; Perform setup and operation of Manual machines: Knee mills, engine lathes, turret lathes, OD grinders, ID grinders. Also CNC machines: Mazak lathe, Mazak mill, Studer OD grinder, ProtoTrak Lathe and mill.Machine quality parts from work instructions and blueprints.Use measuring equipment such as: vernier micrometers, inside mics, height gages, intrimiks, air gages, dial indicators, dial bore gages to inspect parts during and after machiningMake parts from blueprints to close tolerances; produce error-free productsMake simple jigs and fixtures from part printsRead and complete forms and generate meaningful reports and chartsKeep all machinery, tools, and work areas clean and trammed inApply basic math calculations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of fractions, decimals, and whole numbers) and concepts of geometry and trigonometry; compute numerical conversions to and from the metric systemMIMINMUM Q UALIFICATIONSMust have at least 2 years of experience as a machinist or tool and die maker, setting up and running both manual and CNC machines or have completed at least 2 years of trade/vocational school or an apprenticeship program that included training in manual and CNC machining and or tool and die making.Must have a High School Diploma or GEDMust be able to lift up to 25 pounds repetitively, occasionally lift up to 35 pounds non-repetitively, and sometimes lift over 35 pounds with assistanceConform to all EHS guidelines including, but not limited to, wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE); Work in an environment with moderate noise intensity (85 to 89.9 dBa) and areas where hearing protection is required, Work in an environment where, due to normal machining operations, there may be dust, chips, fumes, or smoke (not over OSHA Permissible Exposure Levels)DESIRED CHARACTERISTICS:5 years of experience in machining, including setup and operation of manual mills, lathes, and grindersAbility to program conversational machines and in G&M codeAdvanced knowledge of mechanisms and machine operationsBasic knowledge in principles of metal rule dies, CAD/CAM software, and assembly and inspection methodsBasic computer skillsAbility to read blueprints as well as understand applicable information such as written instructions, procedures and specifications that apply to daily work operationsAbility to work in a team-based environment and maintain an excellent record of attendance and punctualityAmbition to excel and advance in skills and knowledgeThis role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information.
