Substance Abuse Disorder Counselor


Job Details

Summary: As a Substance Abuse Counselor, you will play a crucial role in providing clinical services to individuals seeking treatment for substance use disorders. You will adhere to the highest standards of care while facilitating patient awareness, understanding, and motivation to change related to addiction and recovery issues. This position involves direct patient care, clinical supervision, representation of services, and effective communication with internal and external stakeholders.


Key Responsibilities:

Clinical Services:

  • Conduct introductory and initial counselor interviews, design initial treatment plans, and identify vulnerable adult issues.
  • Perform assessments, prioritize clinical issues, and involve patients, referents, and families in the care planning process.
  • Utilize various therapeutic modalities, including 1:1 and group counseling, family counseling, and educational sessions.
  • Collaborate with the treatment team to develop individualized care and continuing care plans.
  • Consult with patients, families, and referents to address clinical issues related to continuing care.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (Bachelor's Degree preferred in MN).
  • Completed certificate/degree program in addiction counseling or equivalent.
  • Active Substance Use Disorder certification or license as per state requirements.
  • Proficiency in technology and computer skills.
  • Current CPR certification (or obtain within 30 days).


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Independent Mental Health Licensure: LPCC, LCSW, LMHC, or equivalent.
