Salary: $46,715.00 - $75,211.00 AnnuallyLocation : Vienna, VAJob Type: Full Time - PermanentJob Number: 00506Department: Public WorksDivision: Street MaintenanceOpening Date: 04/22/2024Closing Date: 5/19/2024 11:59 PM EasternGeneral Statement of JobMaintenance Worker II- Street Maintenance DivisionCDL HOLDER BONUS INCENTIVEStarting Pay $55,000 for CDL Holders$2,000 Hiring Bonus for valid CDL Holders.$1,000 after first 90 days and $1,000 upon completion of 1 year probation.Retention Bonus of $2,000 each year followingThe purpose of this class within the organization is to perform semi-skilled and manual maintenance duties required to preserve or improve the safety, cleanliness, appearance, and appeal of the Town by maintaining, cleaning, repairing, constructing and installing the Town's asphalt, concrete, water, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, traffic signage, signal, landscaping, trees, buildings and other infrastructure.Work unit assignment determines primary and essential functions.Work is performed outdoors in all types of weather conditions, or indoors depending on individual work assignments. Work environment includes exposure to noise, dust and traffic with extended periods of standing, walking, bending, crouching, lifting heavy objects and operating equipment.This job may prepare an incumbent for career progression by gaining additional, more complex, skills.This class works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.Work Schedule Monday through Friday 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM Overtime as necessary and mandatory during emergency situations All new employees must satisfactorily complete a background check. Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.Essential Functions:Performs a variety of concrete work; pours, and finishes concrete to repair curbs, sidewalks, driveway aprons, catch basin; hauls and disposes broken concrete; maintains and repairs retainer walls, piers, bridge abatements, culverts, crosswalks with handicap ramps; repairs brick work and maintains all existing brick work; cleans all new brick work by water jet power washer and muriatic acid; repairs, rebuilds, cleans and maintains storm drains and catch basins. Performs a variety of ground maintenance work; clears sites of trash and excess shrubbery; removes snow; operates leaf machine and/or rakes leaves; removes fallen trees, branches, and debris from roadways; mows grass in the parks and around public building; preps athletic fields for games.Picks up leaves and brush, empties containers and dumpsters; receives and/or reviews records and reports, such as those identifying what is in each container. Refers to rules and regulations, policies and procedures manuals, codes/laws/regulations, publications and reference texts.Operates a variety of non-commercial vehicles and equipment. Uses a variety of tools such as, but not limited to, brooms and shovels and a variety of supplies, such as safety supplies and others. Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals, such as, the town manager, supervisors, co-workers, the general public and, occasionally, elected officials.Interprets map documents, diagrams, sketches, technical manuals and uses associated numbering systems for utility assets; interprets various plan drawings.Competently uses software and computer tablets for email and record-keeping.Responsible for performing updates; records activity into Town's electronic maintenance management system, such as time log, equipment and materials used for maintenance, repair or replacement, and the associated utility asset identification. Additional Duties:Loads and unloads trucks.Cleans and lubricates work vehicle and equipment.Flags traffic in work areas for workers and drivers.Returns to work for snow emergencies.Performs related work as assigned. Maintains positive relations with co-workers and customers. The impact of errors is moderate - affects those in work unit. Physical Demands: Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement. Performs medium to heavy work that involves walking, standing, stooping, lifting, digging, pushing and raising objects and also involves exerting between 20 to 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis and 50 to 100 pounds of force on an occasional basis. Equipment Usage: Equipment usage involves responsibility for materials, machines, tools, equipment, work aids, and products. Leads or handles machines, tools, equipment or work aids involving moderate latitude for judgment regarding attainment of a standard or in selecting appropriate items. Unavoidable Hazards: Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken. Involves routine and frequent exposure to traffic; moving machinery.
