Team Overview: The Advanced Technology group works with engineers, technologists, product managers, and external partners to define the future of RAIN RFID systems in emerging markets.


Role Overview: Unlock new business opportunities by investigating and identifying advanced technologies that solve emerging market needs and enable the next generation of RAIN RFID products.


What you will do:

  • Define how RAIN RFID enables the sustainability both pre-purchase, for businesses and supply chains, and post-purchase, through consumer re-use and recycling of everyday items
  • Investigate the lifecycle of retail packaging such as corrugate, plastic, glass, and metal from manufacture through consumer use and end-of-life (reuse and recycling)
  • Conceptualize and design future technology and product proposals through individual research and collaborative partnerships
  • Develop partnerships with internal and external collaborators, such as suppliers, consultants, procurement, technical program managers, and engineers for researching unique business opportunities
  • Define system-level requirements and derive product requirements for how the Impinj products and the Impinj Platform can enable to circular economy/sustainability and recyclability of RAIN RFID-tagged retail items and their packaging
  • Rapidly identify resources and efficiently learn cutting-edge technologies in RFID industry
  • Communicate technical opportunities, challenges, and progress to broad audiences


What you will bring:

  • Extensive research experience demonstrated as a post-doc, PhD, or Masters candidate with prior work experience
  • Background in packaging science or similar discipline
  • Experience with corrugated containers, paperboard cartons, sustainable packaging, and packaging machinery
  • Knowledge of the performance characteristics of passive RF components/systems and communication protocols (RFID-specific knowledge is a plus)
  • Demonstrated experience working independently in a fast-paced environment and ability to self-manage sophisticated program delivery
  • Experience with data management, critical analysis, and attention to detail
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, including ability to work and communicate effectively with diverse individuals and teams within and outside of the company, ranging from engineers and scientists, to product managers and executives
