Our confidential client is looking for a dynamic and experienced logistics professional to join their leadership team as the Director of Logistics in the Chicago market. In this leadership role, you will be responsible for overseeing and leading a team that is responsible for various aspects of logistics operations, ensuring the efficient movement of goods from vendors and distribution centers to stores while optimizing costs and maintaining inventory accuracy. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in leading teams to achieve results and have an in-depth understanding of a well-functioning logistics department within the retail industry.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Lead and oversee the domestic freight logistics, managing trucking operations from distribution centers to stores
  • Take charge of inventory control at distribution center locations, ensuring accurate stock-on-hand values and implementing strategies to minimize inventory loss
  • Implement and optimize inventory management processes to enhance overall supply chain efficiency.
  • Manage department P&L through adherence to financial reporting processes and ownership of financials.
  • Utilize financial acumen to minimize warehousing costs, negotiate favorable terms, and achieve the lowest freight rates without compromising service levels.
  • Oversee regular reporting processes that contribute to the Logistics P&L.
  • Conduct thorough analysis of monthly routines to validate accuracy, identify issues, and implement data-driven solutions for continuous improvement.
  • Provide strong leadership to the logistics team, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with other departments to align logistics strategies with overall business objectives.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred.
  • Proven experience in a leadership role within logistics, with a focus on domestic freight, inventory control, and financial management.
  • Strong negotiation skills with a successful track record of achieving cost savings.
  • Proficiency in creating new processes and/or reporting where necessary to achieve success
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively at all organizational levels.
  • Familiarity with financial reporting processes and the ability to manage Logistics P&L.
