  • Is the project focused solely on security cameras, or what other equipment is involved? No, this is also working with card access. It encompasses all of physical security and will involve some other IT projects, such as Audio Visual installs.
  • What percentage of the project will involve upgrades/swaps, as opposed to brand new items? 70/30.
  • How much design is involved? Some, but will mostly be done by engineers.
  • How many projects are running simultaneously? Could be a large number, since some of them could be a single card reader here and there.
  • How many people are on the crew will be doing the installs? This is mostly contracted out, but we have 3 resources internally.
  • Will there be extensive travel to various city locations? Yes, that is possible.
  • Is there a city vehicle the selected PM will use, or will they use their own vehicle? This will be a personal vehicle that we pay mileage for.
  • Is this role meeting with vendors and selecting the equipment? Yes, they will meet with vendors. Equipment will be selected by the engineers mostly.

What does the Role Entail:

As a Physical Security Project Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the planning, implementation, and execution of physical security projects for the city of Aurora. You will collaborate with various stakeholders to ensure that our physical security measures align with organizational goals and industry standards. This role requires strong project management skills, technical expertise in security systems, and the ability to coordinate complex projects from conception to completion.


Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer or management science or a related field from an accredited college/university.

Knowledge:

  • Must have thorough knowledge and understanding of project management fundamentals, process design, project estimation, budgeting, and ability to do project risk assessment and mitigation.
  • Must be conversant with current project management methodologies, as well as the Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC) for waterfall, Agile and hybrid approaches.
  • Must have a working knowledge of IT infrastructure, systems integration, vendor, and purchase management.
  • Security System Design and Implementation understanding (PREFERRED)

**A combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the minimum education and experience requirements on a year for year basis


Responsibilities:

  • Project Planning and Coordination:
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive project plans outlining scope, objectives/deliverables, durations, and resource requirements.
  • Coordinate with internal teams, external vendors, and project stakeholders to ensure alignment with project goals and deliverables.
  • Establish clear communication methods and channels to provide regular updates on project progress, status, and address report any issues or risks concerns to Project Stakeholders and City Management.
  • Oversee and coordinate the installation, configuration, and testing of security systems, including access control, surveillance cameras, intrusion detection, and alarm systems.
  • Budgeting and Resource Management:
  • Forecast Project Budgetary and Resource Needs.
  • Develop project budgets and corresponding burn reports as well as tracking expenses and resource utilization throughout the project lifecycle relative to IT costs.
  • Collaborate Work with internal teams within on the City of Aurora Procurement Process for necessary equipment, materials, and services within budgetary constraints.
  • Optimize resource allocation to maximize efficiency and minimize project costs.
  • Risk Management and Mitigation:
  • Identify potential risks and vulnerabilities in physical security systems and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Schedule and document regular security assessments and audits to evaluate system effectiveness and address any vulnerabilities or gaps.
  • Work with the Security and IT Teams to implement contingency plans to mitigate disruptions or security incidents.


  • Documentation Support:
  • Provide documentation support from projects to end-users and stakeholders on security system operation, maintenance, and emergency procedures.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, including project plans, technical specifications, user manuals, and incident reports for future reference.

Experience:

  • Proven experience in project management, preferably in the field of physical security, engineering, or related industries.
  • Knowledge of security systems and technologies, including access control, video surveillance, intrusion detection, and alarm systems.
  • Familiarity with relevant regulations, standards, and best practices in physical security (e.g., ASIS International, ISC2).
  • Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.

Licenses Required:

  • Valid Colorado Driver's License.

Certificates Preferred:

  • Project Management certification (e.g., PMP, CAPM) is a plus.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Physical Demands:

  • Light physical work requiring ability to life a maximum of 25 pounds, including lifting 10 pounds overhead.
  • Occasional carrying, walking, and standing.
  • Vision to analyze data and read and interpret reports, documents, and other written information.
  • Hand/eye coordination for operation of computer keyboard.
  • Speech communication and hearing to maintain communication with employees and citizens.


Work Environment:

  • Normally works in a clean, comfortable environment.
  • System support issues may require working outside the office environment and in or around emergency response vehicles.
  • Requires rotational on-call support status after normal business work hours.

Equipment Used:

  • Standard business and professional tools and equipment including computers, laptop computers and mobile computing devices.
