Construction Estimator


Job Details

We are seeking an Estimator preferably with experience in the commercial construction and/or manufacturing industries. Experience with Division 8 storefront, doors, and glass and glazing experience is a plus but not required. Our Estimator is responsible for analyzing and interpreting architectural drawings to identify proper scopes to bid and prepare cost estimates. You will also be involved in detailed material take-offs, shop drawings, submittals, and purchasing.


At American Products, Inc. (API), we manufacture architectural metal products locally from our facilities in Oldsmar, Fl. These products include, but are not limited to the following: Storefronts, Curtain Wall, Doors, Canopies, Sunshades, ACM panel systems, Brake metal, Awnings, Roof screens, Bathroom Partitions, and handrails, etc. Some of the largest national chains in the country are our customers as well as architects, general contractors and subcontractors located nationally throughout the US.


Estimator Key Responsibilities, but NOT Limited To:

  • Complete detailed material takeoffs for a wide variety of products, like those listed above.
  • Analyze and interpret architectural plans.
  • Proficiently read and create shop drawings.
  • Perform detailed material take-offs.
  • Obtain quotes from vendors and negotiate pricing.
  • Provide detailed proposals and accurate bid packages in a timely manner.
  • Work with internal teams such as sales, project management, and bid coordination to discuss additional or existing pre-qualified scopes.
  • Meet deadlines and manage bid list due dates.
  • Participate in bid submittals.


Estimator Key Qualifications:

  • 2+ years in construction/building materials estimating preferred.
  • Knowledge of various types of architectural building materials such as Storefront systems, Canopies, Awnings, ACM, Handrail, Asset Protection, Restroom Partitions & Accessories, etc.
  • Experience with Division 8, Division 5 and Division 10 experience an absolute plus.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints.
  • Ability to self-motivate, work proactively and be an effective team player.
  • Proficient knowledge of Windows operating systems.
  • Proficiency in MS Word and Excel.
  • AutoCAD experience, a plus.
  • Experience with Bluebeam or other estimating software a plus.
  • Purchasing experience, a plus.
