Job Summary:

The Shooting Sports Director is responsible for overseeing all shooting sports activities at the camp, including archery, rifle, shotgun, pistol, and cowboy action shooting. This role requires a commitment to safety, expertise in shooting sports, and the ability to instruct and supervise campers and staff in these activities.

Director Week: 6/9/24 - 6/15/24

Training Week: 6/16/24 - 6/22/24

Week 1: 6/23/24 - 6/29/24

Week 2: 6/30/24 - 7/6/24

Week 3: 7/7/24 - 7/13/24

Week 4: 7/14/24 - 7/20/24

Week 5: 7/21/24 - 7/27/24

Key Responsibilities:

Develop and manage the shooting sports program, ensuring it is safe, educational, and enjoyable for campers of varying ages and skill levels.

Oversee the operation and maintenance of shooting ranges, including equipment and facilities.

Train and supervise shooting sports staff, ensuring adherence to the highest standards of safety and instruction.

Conduct regular safety inspections and risk assessments of the shooting sports facilities and equipment.

Implement comprehensive safety protocols and emergency procedures for all shooting sports activities.

Provide instruction in shooting sports merit badges and other relevant scouting achievements.

Coordinate with the camp leadership to schedule shooting sports activities and integrate them into the overall camp program.

Maintain accurate records of equipment use, participant progress, and any incidents or maintenance issues.

Promote a culture of respect, sportsmanship, and ethical behavior in all shooting sports activities.

Support overall operations of Schoepe Scout Reservation at Lost Valley and the Orange County Boy Scouts of America.

Submit an end of summer report

Qualifications:

Proven experience in shooting sports instruction and range management.

Relevant certifications in shooting sports, such as from the NRA or similar organizations.

Strong understanding of BSA shooting sports guidelines and safety standards.

Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.

Minimum age of 21 years, in compliance with BSA national camp standards.

First Aid and CPR certification, or willingness to obtain before camp begins.

Ability to live on site during the summer season working flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as program scheduling requires.

Work Environment:

Seasonal, full-time position during the camp's operating season.

Work involves outdoor activity in various weather conditions.

Physical requirements include standing for extended periods, lifting and moving equipment, and performing range duties.
