We are proud of our close connections with the communities we serve in the Ozarks.Job Summary/Description:KY3, the award-winning dominant number one station in the beautiful Ozark mountains is looking for a sports director to lead its sports department. You would lead a four-person sports department with sports at 6/9/10pm, a weekly half-hour local high school sports show called the Ozone during the school year and a popular Ozarksportszone.com website. We are looking for an aggressive sports director who is passionate about covering highly local and personalized sports stories. We also cover regional pro teams like the Kansas City Chiefs (and yes - the big game too!) and college teams like Missouri State and Drury. We need someone highly organized who will go out every day to shoot and do stories. This is not an entry level position.Duties/Responsibilities will include (but not be limited to):Be able to work (or learn to work) a touchscreen on-air smoothlyBe able to shoot, write, edit, and voice personalized packages, sportscasts, and highlights.Be able to put together and present several minutes of sports coverage daily.Be able to produce and plan a weekly half-hour sports show.Know (or be able to quickly learn) the local high school sports teams across our area.Be able to write in a clear, concise, conversational manner and must read through scripts thoroughly before going on-air.Report live on the scene, especially during sporting events or breaking sports newsDevelop and maintain sports sourcesDemonstrate sound sports coverage judgment, and collaborate with others to present the story in the best way possible.Schedule, mentor, train, and critique at least two sports staff membersBe able to ad-lib during breaking sports or sporting events if needed.Be organized. Must plan all sports coverage days in advance.Attend/host/speak at community service, schools, and community events regularly (post-COVID); meet and greet viewersPost and regularly update stories and other material on the website (including Ozone website) and social media per station requirements. Interaction with viewers on social media is a must, including the ability to do Facebook Lives regularly.Communicate with the digital staff and other appropriate staff members during breaking sports newsFollow clothing and appearance guidelines set by the news directorMust be a visual storyteller; perform creative stand-ups and explanatory, moving live shots when needed.Evenings, weekends, mornings, and holidays will be requiredBe willing to learn or possess a broad and working knowledge of the viewing area, including people, places, things, and historyCritique, feedback, and training are part of the jobLead the sports staff to produce/anchor at least 15-30 minutes a day on CTV streaming deskAble to work independently with limited supervisionWork well in a team environment with the ability to maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving in a manner that will mesh well with co-workers, supervisors, and viewersDemonstrate solid news judgment and journalistic ethicsMaintain professional and ethical conduct at the station and in the community Perform other job-related duties as assignedQualifications/Requirements:Must have anchored sports at a local televis on station for at least three yearsBachelors degree in journalism or related field is preferredIf you feel youre qualified and want to work with a great group of people go to
