Description

The City of Fairfax Parks and Recreation Department is dedicated to developing and maintaining beautiful, safe and environmentally friendly open spaces for the public to use and enjoy. We excel to meet the needs of our customers and residents and the needs of the City of Fairfax through activities, special events, cultural arts and parks that are representative of the best practices of our profession.

Special event worker will provide support to the department in realizing the overarching, conceptual goals outlined in the Parks and Recreation Strategic Master Plan with special attention to subsections concerning Special Events. Said support will be achieved in the form of participation in individual tasks and projects determined by the department and/or intern's direct supervisor. The overall objective of the Special event worker is to sharpen professional skills while donating time and output to the Fairfax community at large through the department.
Examples Of Duties

Maintain forms and publications deemed relevant to the success of the department on an ongoing and, when possible, independent basis.

Aid in raising the awareness of City of Fairfax residents as to programs and events offered by the City of Fairfax government for said resident's benefit.

Familiarize him or herself with City of Fairfax services and offices and understand that she or he has a responsibility to both the citizens of Fairfax and its officiants to represent the city well in all aspects.

Provide information to citizens in the form of face-to-face interaction, letter sending, telephone conversations, and so on. An example of their task is resident/business owner letters will need to be mailed informing them of road closures for the Independence Day Celebration Parade and Evening Show.

Provide positive customer service experiences by interacting with the public at the office as well as at events.

Keep a written log of information detailing experiences so that the position may be evaluated with ease and accuracy.

Transcribe, organize, or otherwise order and/or reorder information by any means when and where instructed to do so. For example, staff will ask the Special event worker to help inventory supplies and order what is required to implement events.

Perform any other tasks deemed reasonable and necessary for the good of the department.

Qualifications

Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Exemplifies strong reading and writing skills, specifically the ability to write persuasively.

Maintain a flexible schedule such that the organization of the department may be easily flexible.

Able to multi-task or focus strongly on individual tasks as needed.

Displays the ability to work on tasks independently or with others as needed.

Have a reasonable understanding of the City of Fairfax government prior to application.

Be an engaged and informed member of society such that he or she is an example as well as a resource to the public.
Supplemental Information

Intermittent hours as needed, opportunity to continue to work as summer seasonal help.

Hours are flexible each week depending on availability.

Lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.

Must be physically able to work events which may require being on feet all day.
